Introduction

This was great night of food, friends, and wine. A perfect evening to sit on the deck and revel in an embarrassment of riches. Master Chef Nita was on her game despite the interventions of aspiring/wannabe Executive Chef Craig, skillfully bringing plate after plate of tasty concoctions. We are so spoiled. And.....there was wine.

  • 2012 Domaine Trapet Chambertin 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Bright ruby red color. Drank 1 glass over an hour. Really lovely, hi toned nose of cherry, sappy cherry, spice, earth. The palate is medium bodied with great sweet red fruits, sappy cherry, strawberry-rhubarb pie, earthy, fresh and lifted, spice and sous bois, long and elegant. 94+ to 95pts.

  • 2009 Domaine Bertagna Chambertin 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

Dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 75 minutes. Same bottle as Chablis28 and I don't think i can add much to what he accurately described. The nose is better than the palate right now, tight and shut down with a touch of reduction that blows off, red fruits, spicy, oak shroud. Needs a few years to integrate and come back around.

  • 2004 C.V.N.E. (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España) Rioja Imperial Gran Reserva 91 Points

Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja

Very dark red color. PNP, drank 1 glass over an hour. Youthful, vanilla, dill, black fruits and anise. The palate is dense, kirsch, black cherry, plum, vanilla, oak, dill, anise. I'd like to check back in 3 years. 91+pts.

  • 2010 Clos Mogador Priorat 89 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Priorat

Purple/red color. Drank 1 glass over an hour plus. This was pretty big and disjointed at the moment. Showing its alcohol and plenty of new oak, black fruits that want to come out and play, but just can't get past the oak and alcohol at this point. A big, bold modern styled wine that need more time to hopefully tame it.

Flight 5 (1 Note)

  • 1993 Catherine et Pierre Breton Bourgueil Les Perrières 93 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Bourgueil

Dark red cloudy color, mild bricking. Drank 1 glass over an hour. I was all up in this wine, loved it from the start. Great complex and mature nose of sour cherry, tart strawberry, rhubarb, herbal, funky, a touch of green pepper. The palate is deeply earthy with some funk as well, sour cherry, strawberry-rhubarb, nice, medium full bodied, and long on the finish. Well integrated tannins. A wonderful aged bottle of Bourgueil.

Flight 6 (3 Notes)

  • 1982 Château La Louvière

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

This was past peak for sure, cheesy, VA, showing signs of what it was, but just signs.

  • 1985 Château Léoville Barton 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Very dark red-purple color with a 2mm clear meniscus and no bricking. Splash double decant and poured, drank 1 glass over 90 minutes. This was spot on lovely, dark red fruits, violets, cassis, graphite, earth, dust. The palate is vibrant and alive, red berries, cassis, full bodied, elegant, gravel, earthy, graphite, firm but round tannins. Great vintage and in a good place but can go for years. 94 to 94+pts.

  • 2005 Château Lascombes 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Very dark/purple red color. Drank 1 glass over an hour. Full bodied, young, firm tannins, blackberry, blackberry liqueur like, currants, spiced wood, really good with the chocolate tart as Chablis 28 noted. Very tasty, but this is a big vintage and it needs another 10 years to be a peak.
