The Bristol - Chicago IL

Slightly musty start but with great underlying fruit. That concentration stayed there for an hour+, but a dusty sense of corkiness slowly emerged in the background and started coming forward with more time in glass.

Tasted blind in flight. Very ripe aromas and flavors. Mature nose, more balanced and charming flavors, but still best for the near-term. Not nearly as exciting as the last few bottles tasted over the past few years.

Tasted blind in flight. Fresh apple and pear with floral and spice note throughout. Incredible balance and persistence, this is an elegant masterpiece. Easily the best Roumier Corton-Charlemagne I have ever tasted. The final sip was at least as good 4 hours after first tasted.

Open 90 minutes before serving, half in decanter. Served blind in flight. While this comes across as incredibly dense and concentrated, it also maintains supreme balance and elegance, so that you need to pay attention to see all the incredible detail here. Ripe fruit throughout, almost seemingly tropical to start. Subtle licorice, ginger and allspice everywhere. Minerality and acidity throughout, but everything is just perfect harmony. This kept getting better and longer with more time in glass for an hour+, then faintly started shortening by the end of the evening, 3 hours after first poured. In its peak drinking window.

Open 75 minutes before serving, served blind in flight. Slight sulfur note to start, which dissipated after 10-15 minutes in glass. Fleshy and slightly flashy, but still with great concentration and power. I wish there were slightly less pronounced new oak, but that's nit-picking in a rockstar flight

Open 75+ minutes before serving, over half that time in decanter. Subdued aromatic start, more floral and alluring once in glass 30+ minutes. Power, power, power coming through on palate. Orchard fruit throughout with slightly sweet baking spice. Great now with air, clearly with upside going forward.

Served blind in flight. Ripe apple with moderate density and concentration. Moderate energy. I haven't had this wine since shortly after release, and didn't find it as intense today as it was earlier. I initially thought this was the 2011.

Served blind in flight. An absolute star tonight, one of my favorites of the evening, certainly the best in the flight. Lush and powerful, while also showcasing elegant textural, minerally nuance. Concentrated fruit and overall flavors with charming, engaging Asian spice notes. Good now, with upside from here.

Served blind in flight. Moderate ripeness with subtle spice and floral hints. Overall wonderful balance, which showed through clearly on all three vintages of this wine tonight.

Single blind in flight. Open 45 minutes before serving. Ripe and powerful, but with lots of minerality and acidity. Once again showing outstanding balance for the vintage. Good now, but with upside going forward.

Served blind in flight. Very elegant overall with bright fruit, spice, floral notes in nice balance. Remained the same start-to-finish. very good now.

Served blind in flight, this was easy to identify as older than the others. Ripe and powerful. i found this endearingly mature, while others found it a little too advanced vs the younger wines in the flight.

Served blind in flight. Floral start with some mint, licorice and ripe orchard fruit. Very well done, nicely balanced. Drinking beautifully, I wouldn't expect further upside, but this should drink well for close to another decade.

Served blind in flight. Great spice and ripe fruit aromas with floral charm. Good flavors, but clearly less exciting overall. More fat, less nuance. Moderate weight. Less exciting than previous bottles from the same case.

1996 Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne Brut Cuvée Palmes d'Or 90 Points
France, Champagne
Very ripe and nicely mature. Dense and powerful, I certainly enjoyed this wine a great deal, but probably would have preferred it a year or two ago when most likely brighter and more zippy.
