just got home after the stair thing with the guys. Fancied a taste of something so decided to taste my way through a few wines before choosing something else to drink.
Well, that was very pleasant. The freedom of the Coravin. I have all of these wines tasted to be drunk this year so it appears that I've got it just about right, possibly with the exception of the first two wines...we shall see.
2009 Faiveley Mercurey Clos Rochette Blanc
France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey
From Coravin. Apple, cream , slight sweet spice with hints of lemon, minerals and slight gun smoke. Slightly sour and stalky fruit with almost tarragon. There is some tannic grip here as well. Hmm.

2012 Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay Sonoma Coast
USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
From coravin. Pineapple, melon, cream, butter, slight almond meal...more of the same on the palate, butter and cream more dominant, quite tangy, slight mid palate burr. Hmm.

2004 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
From coravin. Honey, peaches, cream, slight sweet spice, smells like aged quality...very slight leather notes as well as some orange blossom. In the mouth it's very slightly sour and very slightly oxidative beneath the honey, cream, slight yoghurt and peach. Also some almond/marzipan here. Long. Sheesh, it's pretty good. Better than I remember it, with a touch of alcohol warmth on the back palate.

2005 Remoissenet Père et Fils Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
From coravin. Marzipan, sweet spice, honey, butter, toast, stone fruit. Rich, dense, buttery and spicy with oaky notes, stone fruit, slightly chalky burr. Arguably it's a bit alcoholically warm and a lacks some acidity but it's pretty fine and exceedingly long. There is, also, a slightly raisined element right at the end of the finish. Very nice.

2006 Montes Syrah Folly La Finca de Apalta
Chile, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley
From coravin. Blackberry and blueberry, sweet spice, cream, vanilla, quite ripe. Quite broad and ripe on the palate, fruit and spice as per the palate. Slightly sour and with fine textured slightly gritty tannins and quite a lot of alcohol heat. Medium plus length. Quite nice in a slightly sour way. There is also a bit of savoury almost peppery spice on the end of the finish. Okay.

2008 Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
From coravin. Ripe cherry and raisins, slightly menthol and vegetal notes lend a porty air. Creamy as well. Preposterously big in the mouth, chalky tannins but only medium plus intensity. Quite porty on the palate as well. Touches of ripe plums & chocolate as well. Fair amount of alcohol heft here as well. Travels long. I rather like this. In a good spot but really needs and exceptionally rich stew to make it shine.

2003 Leeuwin Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Art Series
Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
From coravin. leather, cigar box, slight eucalyptus goes hand in hand with ripe black currant and cherry, vanilla and chocolate. Very rich on the nose. In the mouth it's zestily juicy, fresh with black currant, spice, leathery moderately drying tannins, really rather nice. Quite long finish with slight alcohol warmth intruding. Yum.
