Deep ruby. Ripe blackberry fruit on the nose. Lush entry followed by tighter, more mineral back end. Still young. Surprisingly New World impression on the attack.
France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes
Light yellow. Lovely aromatic Viognier without the sickening florality. Medium weight, great glycerine texture, snappy grapefruit and acidity. Very nice wine from a varietal I usually hate.
Dark ruby. Wild, bacony nose that kept deepening and evolving. Smoke, blackberry confit, grilled meat, and a helping of green herbs. Voluptuous and long. Wow, sexy wine.
Still deep ruby. Pure confiture on the nose. Round, ripe, background wood. A lush, New World style Côte Rotie with plenty of character-char, smoked meat, wonderful amplitude and sweetness of fruit. Fleshy and definitely not for lovers of a more restrained style.
Light muddled ruby. Ineffable complexity both aromatically and on the palate. Medium weight, savory blend of soil and mixed red fruit. Stunningly good and complete for a completely unheralded vintage-ah, Chave. Amongst some very strong Northern Rhône competition, my favorite red of the evening. Informative that this Hermitage could seem so elegant amongst a slew of Côte Roties.
Light yellow. Citrus nose. Relatively light for Vouvray. Off dry. Prominent grapefruit and soil, zingy acidity. This is embryonic and gives the impression that it will take ages to unfurl.

2001 Tardieu-Laurent Côte-Rôtie

Faded, mature ruby. Secondary perfume with some pepper. On the elegant, savory side with high acidity. Just about mature, surprisingly good.
