Light tawny color with brown tinge. Attractive char and spice nose. Light with unexpected sappiness. Ripe red fruit, orange zest, cinnamon, scorched earth, fine acidity. Leaves an impression of brightness and freshness. I must say that this is an exceptional Fixin. I simply cannot recall another one that had so much to it and a texture like this.

Even ruby. First bottle not a charm-corked. Back up bottle floral with medium body, excellent feel, dark cherry fruit, finishing soil and moderate tannin. Some oak crept in at the very end, but on the whole, this struck me as less woody than Pousse d'Or has often been. Very good, but perhaps denser and less lithe than I'd like for Volnay.

Light ruby center. Brambly dark berry aromatics. Medium weight. Stemmy black fruit. Backward, restrained, and stern, although not overly tannic. This one needs a number of years to unfold.

Light, pale at the rim. Soft red fruit and gentle herbs on the nose. Light weight, elegant, supple, earthy entry followed by late arriving acidity and even more soil. Good length. Subtle wine that is already accessible, but rather a joke for Grand Cru wine in this price range in terms of depth and overall interest.

Light ruby with fading edge. Ripe fruit and wintergreen. Medium weight, great sap without a lot of wood. Round, ripe attack with char, earth, and moderate back end acidity. Slightly drying tannins. Overall, fairly open for young Clos Vougeot, but I suspect that that may change given the structure that shows in the finish. Excellent potential with more time.

Red center, light rim. Strawberry and brett on the nose. Very light weight even accounting for the fact that it is a Gevrey Grand Cru. Nice red fruit, citric lift, some soil, lowish tannins. Pretty but lacking depth and length. I'd drink this early, which is an odd thing to say about a Griotte.

Relatively pale in color. Classic red fruit/soil Gevrey combination both aromatically and on the entry. Natural sweetness, medium weight, utterly harmonious and sappy. Remarkable complexity now, fantastic late soil and acidity, and not at all too tannic to prevent early enjoyment. Oh, and it just goes on and on. This is a honey of a wine, more Grand Cru in quality than 2 of the actual Grand Crus that preceded it. Cue the head banging and teeth gnashing that stems from the reality of these wines being so out of reach these days. Nevertheless, a great treat to taste, even young.

Red core. Lovely florality and red fruit. Medium weight with a feel of rich clay, whole berry fruit, nice sap, back end soil and slight tart acidity. Light tannins and a very light wood foundation. I liked this a lot, and it is perfectly suited for pleasurable early drinking. God, tasting this, it is hard to believe that this is the same Lucien Boillot domain that crafted dirty, skinny wines through much of the '80s and '90's.

Deeper than Les Angles. More obvious oak too. Not as easy as the former wine. Cherry and soil first, then leaner and more penetrating in the mouth. Great acidity, moderately tannic with a touch of austerity. I'd give this several years before retrying, but it could turn out to be excellent Volnay.

Red, light rim. Immediately more earthy than the 2 Volnays with pungent green notes as well. Light to medium bodied. Not at all sappy, in fact pretty sharp, austere, tannic feel. Dry finish. Now this is more like the old Boillot wines, and I don't care for it. I really question the balance.

2014 Patrick Piuze Chablis Grand Cru Bougros
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Pale greenish yellow. Lots of sea breeze aromas. Brisk orange and lime. Powerful with excellent finishing soil. One of the best wines I can recall from Piuze.

2014 J.M. Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Medium yellow. Floral and lightly oaky nose. Ripe citrus fruit, elegant weight and feel, fine rising acidity and minerality, long clean finish. Excellent and very Puligny in style.

2014 Bouchard Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne Domaine
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Light yellow. A lot of toasty oak. Not as heavy as I might have expected from the nose. Some lively citrus atop a resiny, woody base, and only adequate acidity. Sorry, not Grand Cru quality and the oak buries the rest.

2014 Marc Colin et Fils Bourgogne Blanc La Combe
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Light yellow. Orange peel. Light to medium weight with some glycerine. Pure citrus with a bitter component. This is excellent Bourgogne and a great value. It is better than many higher classified Colin wines I've had in the past!

2014 Marc Colin et Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Montceau Blanc
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Yellow. More pear than citrus on the nose. Bigger and richer than the Bourgogne, but acidity, citrus, and stone kick in at the end, and the finish lingers. Very, very good.

2014 Marc Colin et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet Les Encégnières
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Medium yellow. Forward scents of pear and pineapple. Lighter bodied than the St. Aubin but impressively sappy and layered. Discrete wood. Really fine acidity and minerality. Lovely stuff. I was quite impressed with all of the Colin whites, not something I usually say.
