France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Darker core, reddish maroon rim; fresh nose, fruity, spice, red and dark fruit, raspberry, black tea, some graininess, mineral, more grip comes out with air; almost reminded me of Priorat; became more classic Right Bank with more airtime.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Very pale crimson core with pale rim; soft red fruit, delicate, slight green note, cranberry; more intense fruit on the palate, firm acid, very zingy, leaner tart red fruit, grippy finish; was in NSG but missed vintage.
Pale dull ruby; slight sulfur, deeper darker edge, fresh plum and cherry, raspberry; sulfur shows on palate too, good depth of fruit, firmer structure; ok.
Maroon core with pale crimson rim; roses, elegant nose, fresh, hints of sandalwood, slight orange peel; great texture, nice caressing tannin, sour cherry and plum, orange, currant; tasty, was on Nebbiolo because I never got the volcanic character.
Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Darker core with brown rim, lots of chocolate in the transition; soy, brown sugar, maple, fennel, aged nose; palate shows bruised cherry, cedar, sweet wood, brown sugar; not much fruit left in this, past peak.
Opaque core with thinner reddish violet rim; strong oak, pen ink, cedar, sweet, big, nutty, dill, very NW; thick texture, sweet, fig and blackberry preserves, still young and monstrous.
Super purple, bright magenta rim; burning tires, violets, purple fruit; grippy tannin, shorter finish; hard to evaluate this young; from a different bottle tasted later in the day.
Dark core with reddish violet rim; black olive, chocolate, young, powerful, spice, granite, violets, stank, black pepper, slight green note; great texture, some grip, cedar, finishes with more velvety tannin; tasty though quite young still; WOTN.
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Darker core, deep crimson, browning rim; fennel, smoke, cherry, chocolate, cedar, sandalwood; intense cherry, black tea, citrus, cherry, aged; better on the palate than nose suggests.
1998 Clos des Pontifes Châteauneuf-du-Pape
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

See through duller ruby, pale rim; pine, bit of brulee, cherry pit, sweeter, simpler; ok, needs to settle a little bit, no familiarity with producer.

Darker perspective to this bottle, sandalwood, roses, balsamico, deep, layered, structured, youthful though a pleasure to drink.
