Introduction

Every participant had to bring a wine of the theme. We did not know which wines were brought by the others. All wines were tasted blind, also without knowing when the wine you brought yourself was poured.

Flight 1 (2 Notes)

    South Africa, Klein Karoo

The bouquet is still a bit locked but it shows dark and red berries, menthol and some smoke. On the palate red berries, herbs and spices, leather, licorice, firm acidity and mild tannin with a good bite.

  • 1997 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Chapelle

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

The mature bouquet shows tea, celery, soy, caramel and tobacco. On the palate chocolate, coffee, mocha, autumn impressions, some sweetness, old age acidity and mild tannin. The wine is still nice to drink, but this wine should be much better and fresh. Wrong storage over the years? The history of the bottle is unknown. Pity, no score.

  • 2005 d'Arenberg Shiraz The Dead Arm

Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale

Beautiful and deep bouquet with dark forest fruits, leather and some glue…? On the palate a very concentrated with dark berries, leather, licorice, firm acidity and tannin, chocolate and oak. Overall this is a good wine, possibly even superb, but the glue in the bouquet worries me a bit. No score.
