A tasting of some of today’s greatest references from Bordeaux and Napa - over $3000 worth of great wine - sit down tasting of great wines blind, tasted three at a time and revealed.
Crowd is 20 people and 21 different bottles are tasted in 7 flights (1oz pours).
Tasted blind. Lots of tobacco on the nose and palate. There are also raisins. Very good, full and rich.

Tasted blind. Brown bricking with sediment. Nose is that good ole barnyard funk, and some almonds. This is actually quite big on the palate, compared to the other old bordeaux. Lots of secondary flavors coming out on this one.

Tasted blind. Dark dark color. Nose seems muted. Color is very good. Very different than the rest of the bunch. Lots of violet action going on in the palate. Very delicious.

Rang Dong is a new and small Chinese owned winery in Napa that is making some very impressive wines. This wine was recommended and added to the tasting by the host.
Tasted blind. This one took the crowd by storm. Very sexy nose like a women's perfume. Lush lush fruit. Big as hell and also very smooth. The crowd did not seem that happy with themselves when the wine was revealed as that Chinese wine. Nevertheless, people could not doubt that it was a great wine.

Tasted blind. Nice dark color. Lush nose. Overall good but the finish was a bit bitter and astringent.

Tasted blind. Slight browning at the rims but color is still very dense and opaque. Slight barnyard nose. On the palate, this wine was VERY big. Possibility the biggest wine of the night. Lots and lots of acidity, which some might not like. But this was very big and very good.

Tasted blind. Slight bricking. The crowd was not pleased with this one. This seemed to be falling apart. Astringent and bitter. Few people said it needs more time, but I highly doubt that. This will just continue to get older and worse.

Tasted blind. This was by far the inkest wine of the night. Super dark and vicious. Tainting the glass like pen ink. Very good nose, reveals high end characteristics like a Schrader or Dominus. Palate is very silky and rich. Good one.

Tasted blind. Slight bricking. Little bit of burnt caramel on the nose. Kind of hot and astringent. Bitter. Crowd was not wowed by this at all.

Tasted blind. Horse sh*t on the nose. The most poo-poo esque nose of the bunch. Very dark color. Big wine.

Tasted blind. This was the crowd's WOTN by an overwhelming 50% or so. New world nose and very seductive. Tight and tannic but a very round finish that packs a punch. A total stunner.

Tasted blind. Super brown color and transparent. So old old old. You get so much secondary flavors on this one. Pencil shavings, cigar box, Leather, Leather, and Leather. Nice... very nice.

Tasted blind. The nose is sneaky. Burnt caramel. Big wine. Off the bat, I thought this was a 2003 Bordeaux by its over ripeness and a slightly burnt caramel after taste. Something about this wine though. I really liked it.

Tasted blind. Nose is very seductive. People thought this was the Harlan Maiden (which was the anticipated one in the line up). My note reads, "Motherf*ck is this the Harlan???" Anyway, what a surprise. Big wine with a hell of a finish. Seven Stones is so damn good...

Tasted blind. Smells like lipstick. Nose is pretty unique: Crayons. A complete monster on the palate. Very young.

Tasted blind. Scratch the previous notes. This nose is the most unique from the bunch. Damn good nose. On the palate, this is super tannic with some spice. So young and primary at this point but still so good. This was my WOTN and couple others as well. Robert Parker knows his stuff.
I'm glad I gave this a blind score of 96. It was well deserved.

Tasted blind. The crowd was really looking forward to this one. Barnyard nose. Very old world. Palate was just slightly bitter but still very good. I got this interesting aftertaste like BBQ... smoke... beef jerky?... Interesting.

Tasted blind. Sexy sexy nose. Wow. So elegant. On the palate... something about this is just screaming elegant to me. Lipstick lipstick lipstick. There it is... Lipstick. I liked this one a lot, although it was very primary and almost too closed to the point of being astringent, which turned some people off.

Very educational and fun experience. The O'Shaughnessy took the crowd by storm with WOTN of almost 50% of the votes.

1996 Château Léoville Poyferré 89 Points

Tasted blind. Bricking on the rims. Pauillac nose. This tastes similar to a 1994 Pontet Canet I had months back. Mid-palate is slightly hollow but overall a good classic claret with that nice barnyard funk.

Tasted blind. Nose is kind of mute. Nice dark color. This is dense, sweet, and minerality is evident.
