France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Light ruby. Ripe berry nose, unusual for Savigny. Medium weight, certainly not overly fruity on the palate. Soil, herbs, lots of structure, but not as brambly as it often is. Good but not compelling.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru
Lighter ruby. Earth, black fruit, briary. Ripe but brooding fruit, wonderful soil and ground coffee followed by a smack of tannins. This is excellent, and I much preferred it to the Pavelot Savigny.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Light ruby core. Some funk and green elements-does not smell like ripe vintage wine. Light, very earthy, good acidity, dry finish, and not much in the way of red fruit. Extremely meager Grand Cru wine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Clear ruby. Fragrant, floral, slightly herbal. Light, soil-infused, a bit of ripeness. Elegant, very nice feel and balancing acidity. Definitely another terroir wine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Red center. Scents of wood and red berry. Elegant weight and feel, citric lift, light soil, astringent finish from the oak. Nothing special and not particularly Nuits profile.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Light ruby core. Riper cherry and soil make for a very Gevrey aromatic profile. Sappy medium weight, beautiful black cherry, moderate earth and tannins, fine finish. I am less familiar with this than other Fourrier wines, but it showed very well, especially considering the vintage. Definitely in an early phase of drinkability if you value the vibrant fruit most.
Magnum. Translucent ruby. Quite a bit of brett and char-not what I expect from a Drouhin wine. Chewy and big for Volnay, blacker fruit, strong citric acidity, quite structured and tannic. If the amount of brett is representative, I worry about this wine over time.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Compared to the 2015's, more floral, steely nose. Medium weight, mineral, lively citrus, discrete wood. Very nice and not one that requires much more time.
2015 Domaine Pavelot (Jean-Marc et Hugues) Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode
