Just a small dinner. Surf and turn was the menue. The lobster paired well with the champange, and the Silvio nNardi faired a bit better with the filet covered with gorganzola cheese. That strong pairing needed the tannic structure of the younger wine. However, the Altesino was outstanding.
1999 Tenute Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino 90 Points

Very nice and drinking very well right now but will be even greater than a few years. Hints of spice and graphite on the nose with still a bit of tannin bite, hints of berries and dark plums on the palate, nice finish.

Second go around with this wine and it was just as good as the first. The last one was I opened was at a restousant and the wine steward had decanted it for 1.5 hours prior to service. I could not wait and tasted it at 15 minute intervals. initaly it was a bit tight with a very strong barn yard smell to to it. However, it opened up and the nose changed dramitacy by the first hour. After that the tasiting notes were the same as the previous (Another excellent BDM. It was very old school and rustic but appealed to my palate quite nicely. Hints of tobacco and fruit on the nose with earth and dust on the palate and a long finish.) I have found a local source for this at a great price and I am going to stock up on it to tide me over till my 2001 are ready
