Certainly a well aged Brunello. Cork was fine -- not much sediment. Fruit has given way to the leather, chocolate, coffee flavors. Tannins have softened as well. Still drinking nicely.

Deep garnet in color with a slight bricked edge. Nose of stewed cherries, leather, hint of blackberries and vanilla. Tastes of dark cherries, dark chocolate, expresso, and hints of leather and graphite. Lovely wine with plenty of positive evolution potential. Nice balance and much more fruit then the last bottle. Drink over next 7 years.

Garnet in color with bricking edges. Lovely nose of dark cherries, violets and earth. Tastes of stewed strawberries, tobacco, and leather. Dried out, not as much fruit or acidity as expected. Probably a couple years past prime.

A solid performer but I expected a little more, given the vintage. If I had more, I'd probably drink them within the next 4-5 years, as this didn't strike me as a 20+ year wine.

Opened drank over 3 hours at our Christmas dinner. Soft nose to begin with and cherries on the palate with slight tannins still lingering. This is drinking rather well now but not sure it will get much better.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of aspirin, berries, plums and a hint of roasted meat. Flavors of plum, berries, currants and cherries. Medium to bright acidity, medium to firm tannins. full bodied. Drink or hold.

Inaugural Great Steak-Off (Clarksville, Maryland): Pop and pour. Baked fruits, cherry, dusty earth, fresh tobacco, tar, chestnut and milk chocolate. The palate is a bit dusty with bright acidity and noticeable but none-obtrusive tannins. I would definitely recommend a couple hours of decanting and serve with a grilled meat.

Decanted about an hour before dinner. Dark purple, no real signs of age. Classic Sangiovese nose, dark fruits, a bit smoky. Full, balanced taste on the palate - drinking well now. Paired with beef tenderloin grilled with a coating of herbs and garlic. Very enjoyable.

THis was pretty disjointed on opening and took a while to come around. Rougher wine than I anticipated. Put half in the fridge for two days and it was better, more integrated at that time.

Popped and poured. Purple plum in color. Subdued nose with some cherry and ash. A nice drink on the palate. Hint of tannin with earth, ash and some blackberry and cherry subordinate to the non fruit elements. Ready to drink, but still could use a few more years.

Intensely tannic and closed, and it never relented over the course of 4 hours or so from opening. Seemed like the wine has promise, but at least for this bottle, it would have been years off in the future if at all.

I found this Nardi Brunello to be a bit closed and maybe in some sort of "dumb"stage. I thought it would have been more exciting, but it wasn't. Ive had 99 brunellos that made me weep but this one didn't really tickle many emotions. Even though it was closed, it gave off some dark fruit and leather notes, which were complimented by tones of wet soil and earth.

This wine was decanted and poured about fifteen minutes later. This starts out showing well but improves and becomes more complete and complex with about an hour of airing. This wine drinks well now and should hold for many more years. The aromatics show cigar ash, chocolate, tar, cherry and spice notes. The bouquet is expressive and multidimensional. The color is a dark brick red to purple. It is correct for the wines age. The medium/full bodied palate shows outstanding integration of the tannins between the combination of youthful fruit and mature nuances.

Dark purple in the glass, yet see-through. Nose is still quite closed down, mainly dominated by pungent roasted coffee beans and some creosote. Second day there is some more on the nose: dark plum, almost overripe (black plum), blackberry and caliche. It's quite clear that it will become more open and interesting after a few years. Mouthfeel is dense, packed with coffee, leather, plum and after some time even violets. Quite foursquare and chunky, long streak of sours is not completely in balance with tightly wrapped up aromatic core. Long, elegant finish with violets and blackberry. Very nice, not too modernist Brunello that still needs at least 5-7 years too smoothen out and become the aristocratic wine it can be.

Dinner at Robs and Carolynes (Robs House): Very nice and drinking very well right now but will be even greater than a few years. Hints of spice and graphite on the nose with still a bit of tannin bite, hints of berries and dark plums on the palate, nice finish.

Decanted for around 3.5 hours. Dark ruby on pouring. Fruit driven - ripe dark berries, raspberries. Lush, silky. Melded seamlessly with lamb rib eye chops. Herbal, earthy, leather, tobacco, chocolate. I love this wine - it will cellar for years to come, but can be enjoyed at a young age for Brunello if you decant it.

Very tight when first opened. The service was very slow at the restaurant and we tasted the wine 2 hours later. What a difference. Great nose of dark fruit, much more fruit forward. Will wait at least a year for the next bottle.

Aromas of wet leaves and earth which slightly dissipate after about 30 minutes in the glass. A much better wine when decanted 30 to 60 minutes. Jammy and rich on the palate with mushrooms, leather, fruit and slight tobacco. There's an engaging and exciting acidity on the finish which the 1997 does NOT have. The 1999 is more robust than the 1997 (which I had last night, by the way) and will definitely get better in a few years. The 1997 is a smooth, velvety drinker right now, but the 1999 has a fiesty quality which makes it better. I think Wine Spectator got it right.

Medium-dark garnet colour. Aromas of vanilla, cherry, mocha, and violets. Medium-full bodied with red fruits, cherry, earth, and a hint of pepper. Violets show on the 35-40s finish. Will continue to develop with time.

This is at or around maturity and continues to drink well. This does require decanted to show its best and remove the light sediment from bottle age.
