Flight 1 (17 Notes)

  • 2015 Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Singe blind. A more moderate and earthy nose with red cherry and subtle spice. Palate has moderate concentration and an elegant style. Very ready and easy to drink now, though a bit short in the finish. Red fruited with light spice throughout. More Chambolle than Vosne. A taste later in the evening had filled out -- 90+ at that point. Upside from here.

  • 2015 Sylvain Cathiard Vosne-Romanée 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. Full, appealing nose of black cherry with intense spice and toasted brown sugar from the wood. The palate is delicious with forward black and red cherry, intense Vosne spice and a generous dollop of oaky. Flashy and hedonistic, though classic Vosne with the bones to age. Excellent village wine with upside from here.

  • 2015 Domaine Machard de Gramont Vosne-Romanée 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. A highlight and discovery of the tasting. Explosive nose has loads of Vosne spice with more red fruit than black cherry. The palate has good concentration with a suave, plush mouthfeel. Dense, but fresh. Impressive.

  • 2015 Louis Jadot Vosne-Romanée 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. Full nose has rich, sweet cherry fruit with well-integrated oak spice. Strikes me as almost new world in character. The palate is velvety and flush. The fruit is spice-filled and delicious, if a bit forward and simplistic at this stage. Better if this mellows and and builds some depth.

  • 2015 Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet Vosne-Romanée 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. Heavy reduction in the nose, with rich black fruit in the background that starts to get red fruited and spicy with swirling. Serious concentration of red fruit with richness and depth beyond a Village wine. Brooding and non-delineated with flashes of spice and layering with swirling. Upside from here in 5-10+ years.

  • 2015 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. Some reduction on the nose cloaks big, rich and non-delineated black cherry. Riper and richer on the palate, though delicious, with chewy tannin. Practically a barrel sample. Hugely concentrated and deep, with loads of spice and stuffing. Needs a decade+. Upside from here.

  • 2015 Jean-Marc Millot Vosne-Romanée 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. Lighter appearance. Aromas lead with a big Vosne spice and follow with lighter, ethereal red cherry, strawberry and rhubarb pie. The spice here is intense but not obvious. Generous and forward yet elegantly styled. Palate is similarly red fruited and sneaky spice. Fresh throughout. This will age on it's acids. Excellent, with upside.

  • 2015 Faiveley Vosne-Romanée 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. Bigger, non-delineated nose of abundant, rich black cherry with Vosne spice. The palate is immediately chunky with a cross section of black and red cherry that is impressively deep but clipped and abrupt with a firm finish. Needs a decade+.

  • 2015 Benjamin Leroux Vosne-Romanée 87 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. High toned and very red fruited nose -- one note aromas. The palate is very juicy and with fresh, charming red fruits. Simple with just a hint of spice.

  • 2015 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Vosne-Romanée 89 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. Full nose of black cherry and spice is intense if a bit compact. Serious round, rich fruit and structure here. Underlying core of spice that is looking to emerge, but buried behind some wound up fruit. Not showing now, but clear stuffing that suggests upside.

  • 2015 Forey Père et Fils Vosne-Romanée 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. A touch of reduction clamps down rich ripe black cherry and plum that is laced with spice. The palate is fleshy and vibrantly fresh with an intense uptick of spice on the mid-palate. Fresh and lifted with increasing density in the finish. A bit clunky and not yet seamless, but loads of potential and upside.

  • 2015 Domaine Coquard Loison-Fleurot Vosne-Romanée 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind -- impressive value. Big sexy black cherry and that oozes Vosne spice and hint of oak spice as well. Rich dense and nearly creamy. Precise flavors of spice, black cherry and cocoa powder. Clearly some new oak influence here but the dense, rich black cherry carries it so well. Long and dense, with enough acid to carry and provide freshness. A producer that suits the Vosne well.

  • 2015 Domaine Bruno Clair Vosne-Romanée Les Champs Perdrix 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. My WOTN and consensus group WOTN. Full, forward, intense nose of rich strawberry, a touch earthy and unending spice. The palate has excellent concentration yet is light and ethereal with fine tannin, making for a silk-like texture throughout. Pure AF. Spice crescendos and blows up in the finish. Impressive village wine.

  • 2015 Emmanuel Rouget Vosne-Romanée Flawed

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. Muted and neutered throughout. No overt TCA, but this is mildly but certainly corked.

  • 2015 Domaine Gille Vosne-Romanée

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. Shy nose has bright red fruit and a hint of nail polish. Forward and red fruited on the palate but with mouth-puckering acidity. The acids complete crush the fruit making for a tough and awkward drink. Aside from the corked Rouget, this was clearly an outlier in an otherwise impressive line up.

  • 2015 Joseph Drouhin Vosne-Romanée 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. Light but not bothersome reduction as the ripe, sweet black cherry shines through with Vosne spice accenting throughout. Terrific lift to the concentrated, sexy red cherry. Intense herb and spice accents. Concentrated yet ethereal. All the flair of Vosne with the textural sensibility of Chambolle. Terrific.

  • 2015 Jean-Marie Fourrier Vosne-Romanée Aux Réas Vieille Vigne 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée

Single blind. Generous, forward nose that is rather simple with black cherry and spice. Palate is rich and dense, almost thick with spice-filled black fruit. Very 2015, by reputation. Long and tasty but inelegant. Fun now, but does this have the acidity to go the distance?
