France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Intensely rich start with rich orchard fruit on nose and palate, more sweet vs savory spice, plus some peach hints as well. Very good+ density with so much spice at every level. Very long finish. Possibly some upside, but so great now. First time re-tasting since 2015 at Moreau.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Elegant and exciting combination of pear, yellow apple, peach, lemongrass, ginger and orange peel, amongst other things. Good+ weight and length. A 2014 drinking well now, probably with some upside from here.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
A perplexing wine. Lots of very tasty stone and orchard fruit, everything ripe and forward with savory spice middle-through-finish. I just did not detect Grand Cru density or complexity yet here, but maybe (?) that will come with time.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru
Exciting combination of red and black cherry aromas and flavors with some roasted and braised meat. Layers of flavor seem to unfold with more time in glass. So good now, but clear upside from here.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
Ripe black berry, plum and cherry with complex set of sweet and savory spice. Clearly both rich, but also delicate, this is a nuanced wine that kept changing in glass with good weight and very good length.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Open a couple of hours before being served. An odd wine tonight. This showed lots of SO2 that never went away, and kept the wine backward and never really forthcoming. I think this was an odd bottle, since it was inconsistent with my prior experiences with the wine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Also opened a couple of hours before serving, this was backward to start, and then very slowly opened up. Lots of red cherry and berry, this showed so much but coming across in fits and starts. I think at an awkward place right now, but with so much obvious potential, just not showing nearly as well as when tasted multiple times in 2012.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bottle with perfect fill and color. Intense black fruit, some liqueur and braised meat spice with slowly cooked mushroom. Similar aromas and flavors with a complex array of elements unfolding start-to-finish. Perhaps slightly more mature than some 1999s, but so much is going on here that you can't help but keep thinking about this wine.
Ok we had this at the end of the evening, so completely the wrong time of the night. Lots of toasted almond and walnut with dried figs with a bone-dry, very tart finish. Would have been very exciting a the start of the evening.
