Prep for The Tenth Edition of the Villa d'Este Wine Symposium (Bistro Bis - Washington D.C.): Pop and pour, starts with a hint of roasted black fruit. Expressive nose displaying decadent yet pure black fruit, crushed blackberry, blackberry candy, dark flowers, a hint of Dujac stem, spicy spice and mineral. Very sensual palate, so finely layered sweet pure black fruit, rich yet fluid and weightless, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless long black fruit driven finish with a hint of stem and Asian spices at the end. Though youthful and primary, the sensual palate and the pure fruit provide an exceptional drinking pleasure. Will improve for another decade or two.

Side-by-side with the 09 Dujac CdlR. Slightly more approachable than the CdlR, but also simply too young and more inward than generous. Red and black cherry with some nice spice accents on the nose. Lots of concentration and depth. Some Vosne spice. Let this sleep for a decade+.

Chicago Bastille Day Dinner with Lots of Wagyu (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Also opened a couple of hours before serving, this was backward to start, and then very slowly opened up. Lots of red cherry and berry, this showed so much but coming across in fits and starts. I think at an awkward place right now, but with so much obvious potential, just not showing nearly as well as when tasted multiple times in 2012.

Drank very small pours of this twice over the past two days. Incredibly silky, and surprisingly approachable for its age. Rock star potential, with pricing to match.

Zachys La Paulee Auction (RN74 - San Francisco CA): What a treat to try a small taste of this wine two days in a row. Lush red cherry and strawberry aromas, powerful and alluring spice with a great perfumed character. So engaging aromatically that I didn't want to take that small sip and have the wine disappear...but sip I must. Same lush fruit and spice on palate with great textures and length.
