Chez Siggy & Jenny's Place, Mpls, MN
Tasted Sunday, August 12, 2018 by rocknroller with 199 views
A group of 8 of us went out to McMinnville for IPNC late this July. With Tracy and Jason back in our fair city from Seattle, Siggy generously offered to host a reunion of the our group. So it's only been a couple of weeks, big deal. When the Duzer blows, you head the call. Steve and Jenny generously provided apps, steaks, salads and some really fun old Bordeaux. The rest of us chipped in some whites and Champagne and a few other goodies. Just a super fun night. Thanks to Steve and Jenny for everything they did, and to everyone else for their contributions as well.
1996 Bruno Paillard Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 94 Points
France, Champagne
Light medium gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. I really enjoyed this, a classically mature Champagne that is still vibrant and offering notes of maturity, but most importantly, a balance and elegance that still resonates. Medium plus body, golden fruits, toasted meringue, marzipan, baked apple, star fruit, baking pastries, brioche, and ripened melon with complex spices. Much more exciting than a good bottle to years ago. 93+ to 94pts.

2005 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 94 Points
France, Champagne
So drinking Comte on back to back nights is certainly not a bad thing. Another not so revolutionary observation would be that Taittinger makes some awfully good stuff every single vintage they declare. I was thinking to myself the other day when an offer for '07 came through, that I could still pick up the '06 for even less money, but you know, I want to experience every vintage. The '05 was a carbon copy of the Tait framework that is so wonderful every vintage. Toasty, medium plus body, graceful and resonant. A worthy followup to the outstanding '99 from last night. Comte is THE best value in tete de cuvee Champagne.

NV Moët & Chandon Champagne Brut Imperial Rosé 90 Points
France, Champagne
Light salmon color, perfect on a toasty warm night, even better than a bottle a several months ago. This was bright with red fruit, yeast and mineral, and a crisp dry finish.

2017 Bethel Heights Pinot Noir Rosé 91 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
Light salmon color. I was completely enamored with this rose from BH. Not since a bottle of Tempier a few months ago has a rose resonated with me this way. Totally poised and harmonious, this shines across the nose and palate with wispy sea spray minerality, strawberry, watermelon, and lovey stony minerals. Excellent acid, fresh and bright, yet this gives the impression it could age nicely for several years. Highly recommended. 91+pts.
