Introduction

The 2016 JJ Prum's arrived and I just couldn't resist having a quick look. The Bandol also came through the door at the same time so I thought "well, why not"

Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2016 Joh. Jos. Prüm Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Kabinett

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

From Coravin. Medium plus pretty floral top notes, a touch of cream soda, peaches and a little floury apple and a smidge of sulphur on the nose. Peach and apples on the palate, yummily juicy, tangy, lovely. Approachable now I'd suggest though a little sulphur on the end of the finish

  • 2016 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of struck match, a little ripe apple, mineral, stony notes. Ripe apple splashed with lemon, stony mineral textured. Long. A tiny petillance. Nice but time is required here.

  • 2016 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

From Coravin. Slightly peppery, initially green apple, a little citrus, lime over lemon and smoked bacon fat tending to sulphur. This, of the three, is the most 'off dry' but with similar fruit notes as the nose. This is also the most young of the three for me as well and, perhaps because of that, a little disjointed. Time required.

  • 2017 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé

    France, Provence, Bandol

From Coravin. Savoury, slightly gamey, raspberry and strawberry, a little touch of sulphur - though this blew off quite quickly. On the palate it's equally savoury with strawberry and raspberry and some alcohol warmth lending weight to the rather long finish. Very nice.

Closing

What a lovely little micro tasting. Even taking into account the Bernkasteler relative approachability the JJ Prums were still puppies but the Tempier was in a lovely spot.
