Tasting at Bruce & Marsha C's House

Becky and I attended this first event at Bruce's (met him and Marsha at another public tasting event). Was a lot of fun and they both were such gracious hosts with all kinds of delectable foods to eat along with a strong line up of wines. Super fun and good conversation with really good people. There was a bonus wine Halcon Yorkville Highlands (I think) that was stellar (even better than the Elevacion). Would have scored at 92+ points for my Syrah of the night, but cannot find it on Tracker.

• 2016 Halcon Vineyards Syrah Elevacion 92 Points

  USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands

  Nose: Herbal and floral at once. Some bell pepper. Palate: Perfumy white pepper with good acidic tension. Smooth tannins for such a youthful wine. Super well made. 92+ points.

• 2016 Levo Grenache The Right To Bear Flowxrs Grenache 90 Points

  USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County

  Nose: Blue fruited aromas with some pepper traces. Palate: Very present but somewhat soft tannins. Blue fruited with some red fruit hints. A touch of heat but not bad. Nice wine.

  Nose: Blue fruited and perfumy. Palate: Very plush with blackberry and soft tannins and spicy hints.

  Nose: Floral and perfumed with blue and black fruited. Palate: Dark fruited with very little tannin and a long finish.

  Nose: Almost glue like aromas with black fruit. Palate: Black fruited with big but well concealed tannins.

• 2011 Bougetz Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Eminence 92 Points

  USA, California, Napa Valley

  Nose: Perfumed with hints of herbs, fresh mint and cassis. Palate: Beautiful flavors of blueberry soft tannins and a stellar finish. 92+ points and my wine of the night narrowly surpassing the bonus bottle of Halcon Yorkville Highlands Syrah.

• 1994 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 90 Points

  USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley

  Nose: Somewhat pruny but that blew off with some glass air. Still some oak. Palate: Red fruited with good acids and a nice finish.
