I love the brisk, spicy, red-fruited and herb aesthetic of this wine. So bright, elegant, crushable but not simple. Complex pepper, herbs, floral tones.

Juicy plums and raspberries on a velvety frame, but the wine stays bright as well. Lots of complex floral depth in here. Wish I had more time to see how it develops.

This wine was delicious, complex, accessible. Juicy, fleshy, tangy with bright red fruits. Accessible, perfumed, yet there’s a lot going on underneath despite its youth. Loving the anise, herb and floral elements. First time tasting this producer and I’m a fan.

Ah well. I brought this bottle hoping it would show something. A muddled, balsamic mess.

Tasted blind. A lot of us thought this was a Tuscan coastal blend. Nope, all Merlot from. Lots of sunshine, roasted herbs, spiced coffee. Earthy, complex, still plenty of time ahead.

Lovely freshness, dusty tannins, vibrant and spicy with complex red fruits, pepper, grilled herbs, mushroom, floral potpourri. Really interesting and complex but also so vibrant and easy to drink. From magnum.

Still showing some dusty grip, balanced acidity. The cherry and plum fruit taste a bit compote-y to me, but it’s still lively. Peppery, earthy, leathery undertones. Paired so well with the grilled lamb. I’m not sure this will age for a really long time, but it’s in a good place with time to go.

Young and grippy but has a brightness to it, too. Quality is there underneath, and while this needs time, I like the spicy, dark berry, dark earthy vibe to this wine.

Velvety texture, spicy peppers, smoky notes, plummy. Notes and palate exhaustion setting in, perhaps this is much better.

What a gorgeous wine. Loving the smoky, anise, pepper, tobacco complexities on the nose, along with dark, rich currant and plums. Full and grippy but suave and lively. Pretty fruit, but I’m most fascinated by these smoky, peppery, savory, earthy complexities that come out with air. Many years of sleep ahead.

Spicy, minty, peachy nose. Ripe yet balanced, lemons and peaches and spiced tea and a slate/mineral depth.

Bright and steely and spicy on the nose, along with tropical fruits. Lean, elegant, flinty, bright yet so much tropical fruit throughout. A ton of mineral depth. Perhaps the nuances overshadowed by so many wines at the table, but I love this wine.

Peachy and plump on the nose and palate. Loving the honey-mineral contrast. Still lots of time ahead, but this showed very nicely.

2017 Abbazia di Novacella (Stiftskellerei Neustift) Kerner 90 Points
Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Valle Isarco / Eisacktaler
Fresh and lively, salty, peachy, with a nice mineral kick. A good mix of zesty and tropical. I served this to the group blind, everyone guessed Alto Adige, some thought Sauv Blanc, others Gewurztraminer. Nice showing, and a good way to kick off the evening.

2013 Emidio Pepe Pecorino Colli Aprutini IGT 94 Points
Italy, Abruzzi, Colli Aprutini IGT
Easily wine of the night, just spectacular. Natty but pristine. It has this salty, floral quality, deep mineral tones, almond, with apricot and orange peel. As it warmed up and got air, this got more and more complex and elegant. A real treat to taste.

2014 Gini Soave Classico Superiore Contrada Salvarenza Vecchie Vigne 91 Points
Italy, Veneto, Soave Classico
I feel like it’s been a long time since I’ve really enjoyed a Soave Classico, but this fits the bull. Creamy and deep but bright, too. Lots of floral, rocky depth in here. Plush yet tangy, this has some serious aging potential, I’d wager.

Tons of depth in this wine. Lemons, apricots, a cool mix of peanut shell, sea salt, ginger, minerals, chalk. Fascinating stuff that really grew on me.
