Introduction

A celebration of new wine fiends/friends!

Flight 1 - Bubble Bath (2 Notes)

Who brings their own labeled ice bucket? That was cool! Literally. Paired with caviar trio. Kaluga again my fave.

Flight 2 - Time to sit down (3 Notes)

Lots of savory nibbles! J & T's pulled pork was the winner.

  • 2011 Pride Mountain Vineyards Chardonnay Vintner Select 90 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

End of plateau for this bottle, but still excellent. Nice viscosity and TINY oxidation note. Peach, golden apple, lemon zest and oak. Get yourself some cheese and do it!

  • 2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Origines 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

3 Hours in the decanter, modest sediment. This bottle was in a great place! More savory than fruity. Kirsch and plum, then saddle, meat, garrigue, spice, kelp and stone. Better over the next 2 hours and great with all kinds of food but WOW w/ Jason's pulled pork sliders.

  • 2003 Clos Fourtet 96 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Also a 3 hour decant and moderate sediment. This was way better than 5.5 years ago! An immediate nose and the same velvety texture as in 11/2013. Currants, blackberry, mocha, cedar, tobacco, and wet stone persist. Not quite a winegasm, but close. Still has 4-5 years.

Flight 3 - Dessert (1 Note)

Soooo, you don't like blue cheese huh? Try this!

  • 1989 Château Suduiraut 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Consistent notes: "Apricot, dried pineapple, fig, honeysuckle, tiny Botrytis hit, and decent acidity. Bring on the Rogue Creamery blue cheese! (this time the Caveman Blue)."
Sliced dried figs on the Foie Gras pate toasts also a nice match!

That was great. I'm glad WE didn't have to drive home!
