Introduction

Went out with some guys at work for a dinner at Premisse to celebrate an excellent 2007. We had a number of wines, but I have limited myself to taking notes on the four most interesting. The food - as always - were excellent, inventive and delicious!

Flight 1 - White Hermitage (1 Note)

  • 2001 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Blanc Le Méal

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Light yellow. Almost smells like riesling with loads of diesel and tons of minerals. In the mouth it is fat, soft and round, hides any acid there might be, yet extremely mineral-driven, almost painfully so. Add to this a burning sensation from the alcohol and you have a very special white. I am glad to have tried it, but will reserve judgment for now as I simply cannot wrap my head around it. I will have to try it again. Probably a bit closed.

Flight 2 - 2002 Burgundy (2 Notes)

Flight 3 - 1999 d'Yquem (1 Note)

  • 1999 Château d'Yquem 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Yellow, still looks young. Delicious sweet nose of orange berries with hints of classic d'Yquem giveaways: coconut and marzipan. In the mouth it is fat, round, yet sufficiently balanced. Not the greatest d'Yquem, but it doesn't disappoint either.
