Flight 3 - D'YQUEM (5 Notes)

Beautiful, honeyed, and structured. Apricots and other lucious tropical fruits. A winner.

  • 1989 Château d'Yquem 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

A bit fatter than the 88 and 90, but not as fat as I was expecting. Very open and giving. A wonderful showing.

  • 1990 Château d'Yquem 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Shows promise, but very closed. Not much on the nose (compared to the 88 and 89). Good structure, clean botrytis. Needs time.

  • 1997 Château d'Yquem 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Much better than expected. Not the weight of the 88/89/01, but very well balanced.

  • 2001 Château d'Yquem 98 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

I didn't want to believe the hype, but man was this good. The clarity of a fine German Riesling and the intensity of a great Sauternes. No evident oak notes (a plus in my book). Almost painful acidty to compliment the intense fruit. A baby with a stunning future.

Flight 4 - PINOTS (5 Notes)

Flight 5 - DESSERT (1 Note)

  • 1970 Graham Porto Vintage 94 Points

    Portugal, Douro, Porto

Decanted for 10 hours. Ripe, spicy fruit. Cherry/fruitcake flavors with a wonderful mouthfeel. Complex and extremely well balanced. No overt "spirity" quality. Luscious and long. Seems like it could still improve.
