Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2017 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Clos de Guichaux

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur

Medium yellow. Strong scent of underripe lemon. Lovely glycerine texture unencumbered by wood, broad flavors of herb and citrus framed by the fantastic Guiberteau acidity. Very long. Impressive quality and aging potential.

  • 2016 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Blanc Brézé

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur

Tulip colored. Much lower pitched pear fruit on the nose with a good dose of vanilla. Lusher and lower acidity than the 2017 Guichaux. The wood dominates the mid-palate and finish and is just too overdone for me in this wine.

  • 2015 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Blanc Clos des Carmes Brézé

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur

Medium yellow. Complex aromas of yellow fruit, citrus, and honeysuckle. Grand, layered feel without nearly as much oak imprint as the 2016 Brézé. Glorious, creamy, sappy wine with outstanding acidity and an endless finish. Now this would give Grand Cru Burgundy a strong run for its money. I'd love to revisit this in 10 years; it could turn out to be quite extraordinary.

  • 2017 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Bizay Les Chapaudaises

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur

First vintage of this, I think. Healthy clear ruby. Varietal green herbs define the nose. Light to medium weight with some wood underneath. Definitely a cooler vintage impression but not disturbingly green with some nice red fruit and crisp acidity.

  • 2016 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Les Arboises Brézé

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur

Dull red. Less pungently herbaceous aromas than the 2017 Chapaudaises. Softer, more subtle, less angular, and slightly lower acidity than that wine. The biggest difference is more complexity imparted by a long, earthy finish. Much more interesting to me than the younger red.
