As noted by others not all that aromatically expressive and better on the palette than on the nose. The palette though was right up my ally - clean & fresh (no oxidative or boytris notes, which can bedevil my enjoyment of Chenin blanc) yet somehow savoury... with real concentration of flavour & a lovely mouthfeel. Popped and poured - there's certainly a touch of stuck match reduction, but nothing I found overpowering - just the right amount to add complexity. In a really nice place...wish I had bought more when I had the chance. 91 is rather arbitrary and may be conservative - it's good shit !

Given notes on reduction, I planned a few hours decant. It did smell reduced at first, so ended up about 2 hours decant before having some with dinner and then a little more later in the evening. Shy nose, even with swirling, expected more from the aromatics. It was more interesting on the palate and with air, showing good balance and kind of chenin-lite personality. Not as expressive as I would have liked, but enjoyable. Will see how it develops, doubt I'll buy more. Not a bad match with salmon.

Deep yellow. Reticent aromas of lemon and herb. Medium weight, and strikingly for this producer, no wood imprint. Mostly savory flavors-some lanolin and quinine bitterness in addition to robust acidity which has not yet been completely integrated. Not a top example of Clos de Guichaux.

Syrah night at Tasty Loong: Brought this as leftovers after I thought this was too reductive on the first day, but I still enjoyed it as the combination of high acid and ripe fruit gave the wine a tension that the Riffault that I tried last week lacked. More Chenin-like on the first day but Burgundy-like on the third when it developed a waxy, slightly honeyed texture. Still needs time to come together but the potential is there.

Extremely reductive. Undrinkable almost - needs at least an hour of air, though preferably 3. Don’t be afraid to quadruple decant this if necessary. Biscuity notes. There is clearly a lot of fruit coiled up within it but by the time the bottle was finished, it still hadn’t opened up fully Give this another 5 years minimum - though the potential is there

Pale Yellow. Medium intensity with medium body and medium+ acidity. On the nose citrus, lemon curd, orchard fruit, quince, pear, white flowers. As it opens up some stone fruit creeps in but always maintains that underlying chalky minerality. Also a little leesy and creamy. Just complexity and class.

-- popped and poured -- -- tasted over 2 to 3 hours --
NOSE: medium to medium+ expressiveness; pear is dominant note here.
BODY: medium yellow color; medium bodied
TASTE: high acidity --- zingy; mineral intermixed with a hint of underbrush, green apple, and pear; medium concentration of fruit; hint of sweet cinnamon; not much on the rear palate, but I don't much care because it's incredibly delicious; paired very well with chicken piccata. Drink or Hold.

This is the first run I've had with this bottling from Guiberteau. My go-to has always been the Breze. This still has the cut & high acidity and the salinity that is present in the Breze, but there is also this creaminess that comes in during the mid palate that is just pure class. This is a whole new monster, and I really, really like it. Another wine to add to the "must buy" list. Outstanding!!

Newly Released Saumurs from Romain Guiberteau (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Medium yellow. Strong scent of underripe lemon. Lovely glycerine texture unencumbered by wood, broad flavors of herb and citrus framed by the fantastic Guiberteau acidity. Very long. Impressive quality and aging potential.

Beautiful Chenin, still ageing though, oak can be felt, would reward 5 more years of cellaring.
I believe a tone under the Brezé

Quite nice, but relatively subdued, and seemingly more loosely structured, compared to previous bottle on 12/26/20. A touch honeyed.

100% Chenin. Lifted nose. Dry on the palate, but a lovely creamy sense. Very precise. Great food wine. Moreish and interesting.
