Brasserie Margeaux - Chicago IL

Reduction took 5 minutes to fade. Plenty of ripe apple with some peach and sweet spice. Very good density. The richest and fleshiest of the flight, and that's Morgeot coming through. Very good now, with some further upside.

Lemon and green apple throughout. This had been opened 3-4 hours before serving, with decanter time, but is clearly still backward. Lots of density and minerality, but not particularly lots of pleasure at this time. 91-93 point potential, I would like to revisit this wine 2025-2035.

Floral start with ripe apple, pear and some spiced hints. Very good richness while also elegantly balanced. Even better now vs a year ago, both for current enjoyment and medium-term potential. My favorite of the flight.

An odd bottle. Significantly reductive to start, and that never dissipated, even after a few hours. Nose was never enjoyable, but the palate was rich and powerful. Very different vs the two previous bottles that thrilled me.

Floral and spiced start with fleshy apple and some lemon and lemon zest hints. Bright from start to finish, with a very long finish. Good now, better 2022-.

A very impressive Village level wine. Perfumed start with a complex array of orchard and stone fruit. Fleshy from start-to-finish with good density and length for its level, ending with a bright finish. Good now, with upside.

Subtle floral beginning with green and yellow apple aromas and flavors. Rich start with good weight, but this grows and expands towards long-ish, minerally finish. Very classic and lithe. Good now, but better 2022-. My favorite wine tonight for its potential.

Intensely floral and nutty start with peach and lemon curd aromas. Lush, engaging and very demonstrative in a forward manner. So good now with upside. Probably better tonight than the Benoit Ente 2017 Clos de la Truffiere in the next glass, but I think the opposite will be true in a decade.

Leaner styled red and black cherry throughout with dried herbs and earth notes. Moderate weight, good length, but a slightly drying finish. I enjoyed this wine, but perhaps it was lost after all these great younger white Burgundies. 88 points for me tonight. Popped and poured, which didn't help.

From 375 ml bottle, popped and poured. Rich and jammy, just slightly simpler than I'd prefer, ending with a warm-ish finish as well. Good, but slightly disappointing vs expectations.

NV R. & L. Legras Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut 89 Points

Lots of lemon and green apple with good+ weight and length, but finishing with a finish I found slightly too tart, nearly bitter. Then much better with food. Recently purchased, so most likely current release.
