Introduction

Very brief impressions of wines with the family.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • 2003 Aubert Chardonnay Quarry Vineyard

    USA, California, Sonoma County

I am very bummed there will be no more Aubert Quarry. Seeing this wine start to round the corner and develop more complexity makes me more sad. It still has a nice stony but there is also layers of tropical oils and lemony fruit. Still rich but less buttery. I think a few more years are still in order.

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2001 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Russian River Valley

USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

This is drinking nicely but and showing some secondary qualities but it is a little ripe and hot for my tastes. The fruit is still searing. Very ripe black cherries. Very enjoyable and works well with food but not what I grew to love about WS. That said I the wine seemed faultless, just may not be everyones style.

  • 1998 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Showing very ripe. The fruit is very ripe but not heavy or over extracted. Very easy to drink right now with its somewhat light and sweet tannins. Black cherries and spice. The nice acids balance the ripeness. Still so youthful.
