Introduction

Rose does seem to be a good theme for a valentine's day dinner and while usually we ignore more of the gimicky stuff a nice wine dinner from Atera is always fun and delicious.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

Oyster | Cucumber, Jalapeno
Pork skin | Bottarga
Profiterole | Foie Gras, Truffle
Waffle | Salmon, Trout Roe

  • NV Chartogne-Taillet Champagne Le Rosé

    France, Champagne

Bubbles to start the meal and pair with a number of the little bites. I very much used to appreciate this rose for the price point although I think the price point has increased as this producer has gotten more popular. It has always seemed a touch simple in style, but in this case I liked that as it worked as a good compliment to the food and played more of a background role rather than dominating. Also just fun to start with some pink bubbles and this was quite fresh with the red fruits still there (I think 2019 disgorgement).

Flight 2 (1 Note)

Scallop | Sunchoke, White Miso

Flight 3 (1 Note)

Halibut | Brussels Sprout, Cauliflower

  • 2013 Domaine Prieuré Roch Bourgogne Roses

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Had never heard of this wine and kindof fun just because of the heritage (wine made in burgundy by some of the owners of DRC that used to be drunk poolside and now is shipped in small quantities as well to the US). It's a very quaffable rose and enjoyable to get to try, but not sure it quite lives up to the price point.

Flight 4 (1 Note)

Rabbit | Langoustine, Fennel

  • 2017 Domaine Yves Cuilleron Syrah Sybel Rosé

France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes

I wasn't aware this producer made a rose, but I will say it may have been one of the favorites for folks at the table. And overall quite nice. Light and easy and still good fruits and worked quite well with the food. I was surprised it was a Syrah - much more in that Provence lighter style.

Flight 5 (1 Note)

Pork Belly | Broccolini, Truffle

  • 2018 Château Pradeaux Bandol Rosé

    France, Provence, Bandol

Typical Bandol rose. Quite a bit bigger and you get the feeling this is just on the edge of being a red wine instead of a rose. Darker red fruits... getting a bit of dragonfruit as well. This is easily drinkable, but seems to lack a touch of finesse.

Flight 6 (1 Note)

Beef | Celery Root, Sherry

  • 2013 Antica Terra Angelicall

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills

While quite a bit more than the average rose this is a rose that I think functions more like a light red wine and so perhaps is worth it. In contrast to the Pradeaux there is a touch more elegance to this. It's dark fruits but with a higher acidity so it drinks a touch lighter. Very tasty.

Flight 7 (1 Note)

Key Lime | Mint, Coconut
Sorhum | Peanut
Red Miso Caramel

Closing

To be honest the food prob stole the show from the wine a bit on this one. There was a beef course that was just spectacular and a nice little foie bite with truffle that was quite delicious.
