The 2nd Sunday group gathered for our regular double blind tasting. For this group, we are presented a couple of double blind warm ups before the main flight. The warm ups are discussed & unveiled before moving on to the themed main flight. We spent forty five minutes or so tasting and evaluating the eight wines for the main flight before ranking the wines and then making guesses as to what we were tasting. Wines are ranked 1-8, one point for each place, and then unveiled from last place to first place. After the tasting, dinner is served with the additional wines brought by the group, nonblind. For this tasting we had twelve tasters and the cost was $50.
These had been opened & decanted by our host about four & a half hours before the tasting. Much of the group found high acid and tannin in the wines and discussion focused on Italy, and quickly to Piedmont. Personally, I am much less sensitive to acid, and to a lesser extent tannin, than the rest of this group, so it took me a while to hone in on these. Though I have relatively little experience with Barolo, I tend to find myself enjoying them when I do come across them. I'll need to review my notes and look for trends for my palate, particularly if there are any relating to "traditional" or "modern" styles.
2018 Pio Cesare Gavi
Italy, Piedmont, Gavi
Double blind. Citrus fruit with grassy undertones. Good weight and acidity on the palate. Rather sauv blanc-like.

2015 Poderi Aldo Conterno Langhe Bussiador 93 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
Double blind. Apple, smoke and spice with a strong mineral presence. Lingering finish. Easy to pick out as chardonnay, but I think most of us thought French.
