Second Sunday Group: 2002 Burgundies (R&D's): Double blind. The lightest color in the flight. Initial notes of cranberry and sour cherry with mineral, cherry and earth tones on the palate. Lighter body with good balancing acidity. Pretty. Adds a floral note to go with cherry, earth and sandalwood notes. Black cherry on the palate. 92+ pts.

Second Sunday Group: 2013 Barolo (Neil's): Courtesy of R&D, popped and poured. Cherry, mineral and floral notes. Medium-bodied, nice balance. Cherry and red fruit with good density, finishing with some length and a good amount of fruit. I really enjoyed this-more on the elegant side of the spectrum.

This was one of those bottles whose contents disappeared so quickly with dinner that I had to slow down to pay enough attention to allow an attempt at a tasting note. Red cherries and berries in the nose, with a bit of leather and warm forest earth. In the mouth, sleek and smooth, finely balanced, with a wonderful mineral-y structure, ending in a fairly lengthy, mouth-watering finish. A very good bottle, and I am not sure much is to be gained by further rest. I’ll probably open my remaining bottle this year.

Nice velvet colour. Ripe strawberries, sous bois, game on nose. Silky smooth palate with nice but light fruit. Nice balance of fruit, acid and tannin. I must assume my bottle of 2002 "les Beaumont" last week was FLAWED.
