Flight 1 - Welcome Bubbles (1 Note)

Flight 2 - Les Ruchottes (4 Notes)

Flight 3 - Bonus Moreau (2 Notes)

  • 2017 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Corton-Charlemagne 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

A gorgeous nose that is lifted and bright with florals and crystalline white fruit. Rich and round on the palate with a precise and chiseled presence. Young, of course, but showing top pedigree.

  • 1985 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot La Cardeuse Rouge 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

The nose here is appealing and alluring with classic mature red Burgundy of maturing cherry, sous bois, herbs and spice. The palate had plush, ripe fruit that still had good brightness and freshness. Lots of earth and leather complexity. Delicious and still vibrant after 30 minutes in the glass.

Generously shared by Burgundy Al ... a wine that the domaine no longer has in bottle format in their library -- only magnums :-)

Flight 4 - Barbaresco (4 Notes)

  • 2004 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva Asili 95 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Killer, intense aromas of pure red cherry, licorice, herbs and spice. Great richness and persistence to the fruit despite firm structure. So layered already. Needs a decade to soften and integrate, but damn tasty already, especially with food. Upside from here.

  • 1998 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva Santo Stefano 95 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Pretty and appealing aromas of sweet cherry and plum that are showing nice evolution and maturity. The palate is rich and delicious, and relative to the 2004 and 1996 in the same flight, the tannins are tame and integrated. Should have some slight upside but with air this is darn fine now.

  • 1996 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva Asili 98 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Initially tight but really blossoms with 20 minutes in the glass (and following a 3-hour decant) -- very similar profile to the 04 Asili just more layering and emerging nuance. The palate is everything you want in Nebbiolo -- power with refinement and precision. Long, pure, pin point balance. This is close to perfection. Should hold for decades.

  • 1990 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva 94 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

A full and complex array of red cherry and plum with intense spice and florals. The palate is round and layered with terrific power and refinement. The most ready bottle in the flight with decades of further cellaring potential.

Flight 5 - Barolo (3 Notes)

Flight 6 - Chave (4 Notes)

  • 1998 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 99 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

A stunning and spectacular nose that has the full range of classic N Rhone notes -- smoked meat, black pepper, olive and black fruit -- all with intensity and harmony. The palate is complex both in texture and flavor. Great concentration yet ethereal and long. Benchmark syrah. Should hold but this is a wine in peak form.

  • 1999 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

More brooding than the singing 1998. The nose is big with black fruit, meat and pepper - just not yet fully delineated and expressive. Rich and dense and packed with Syrah character. Needs another 5-10 years, I think. Upside from here.

  • 2000 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Like the 1998, this is open, giving and harmonious. An enthralling nose of black fruit, meat, pepper and olive. Palate is similarly generous and complex. A touch shorter and less concentrated than the 1998, but absolutely no slouch.

  • 2001 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Still quite primary and even showing some toasty oak. Rich and chewy right now with plenty of delicious black fruit. Not yet showing the benchmark N. Rhone complexity. Cellar for 5-10 years. Lots of upside from here.
