  • 2018 Rall White 90 Points

    South Africa, Coastal Region

This definitely exceeded my expectations of it (although I'll admit I didn't really know what to expect). Very clean and crisp, with some sweeter fruit and a good dose of acidity on the back end. A mild hint of smokiness as well; a very solid table white.

  • 2008 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année 93 Points

    France, Champagne

This is pretty tasty now, but it also doesn't feel like a wine that has the legs for extended aging; in fact, it's quite tasty now already. There's the racy acidity and intensity of 2008, but at the same time, the fruit on the palate feels fairly resolved. It's a relatively easygoing wine on the palate, which leads me to think this is for relatively early consumption; there's none of the structure you find in the 2008 Dom Pérignon or Cristal. At the end of the day, I'm buying equal dollar values of 2008 Dom Pérignon instead.

  • 2015 Alice et Olivier De Moor Chablis L'Humeur du Temps 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis

This is rich and fruity, but the vintage's fingerprints are definitely on this wine. At the same time, the minerally cut and saline bring you back to Chablis. It's definitely a rounder, broader example of de Moor, but clearly chablisien at the same time.

  • 2016 Domaine Gramenon Côtes du Rhône Sierra du Sud 88 Points

France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône

Simple, juicy, quaffable syrah. Better chilled, this is the kind of simple, refreshing red wine for a summer barbecue. Not particularly profound, but quite tasty stuff.

  • 2009 Louis Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Awesome old-school chardonnay, in a style before the en vogue reductive style. There's so much richness and depth here, with a deep palate presence. A little smoke but plenty of sweet orchard fruit. There's lots of intense extract here; this is a very powerful and rich wine, but also counterweighted by the acidity on the palate. Another outstanding Carillon bottle.
