Floral, vanilla, pear and spice with lemon as well. Seamless on the palate, fine acidity provides the precision, combined with powerful fruit and plenty of texture. Expansive and very long.
Disgorged 26 April 2012. Golden coloured. Earthy, ginger and orange peel. Always a super interesting wine, this is textured and tangy, with plenty of oxidative twang but still showing good balance.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Toast, pear, mint, white florals and melon on the nose. Tight, with a line of rich fruit throughout that gives it early flavour interest. Power is otherwise coiled up. A baby for now, this should deliver as a splendid wine with additional time.
Golden coloured. Passionfruit, lemon, peach and orange peel. Savoury and serious on the palate, with a fine line of acidity that lifts and enhances the fruit profile. In a lovely spot right now, feels like the edges are rounding out with honeyed notes but is still fresh and fine. Yum!
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Earth, roses, cranberry, cherry and charcoal. Palate retains a sense of sweet red fruit, with some caramel notes and a really fine line of acidity that still gives it some zip. All you could want/expect from this wine is here, it's lively but resolved and "right". What a great experience.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Pretty aromas - stalks, lifted roses, smokes and raspberry notes. Some red fruit density on the palate, with very clean acidity and fine detail. Really good lift and flow.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Rich, deeply coloured. Redcurrant, five spice, cola, ash and cherry. Taking on another dimension with air and just lifting out of the glass more and more with time. Savoury, spicy, great depth and balance. Powerful but also delicate. Superb.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
Attractive aromatics draw you in - raspberry, cherry, roses and spicy oak. Seamless on the palate, a masterclass in style. Keeps on the same path throughout the tasting. Super balance.
Sesame oil, sweet red fruits, sultana and leather. In good nick, medium bodied, with good length. A really good bottle of this wine in a nice spot for drinking.
Earthy, plum. blackberry, cocoa on the nose. Immense class on the palate, with fine tannins in balance with the deep fruit. At 20 years it is still extremely young but not impenetrable. Another 15-20 years should see this near its peak.
Orange, cherry, liquorice, slate, redcurrant, ash and graphite - complex and appealing on the nose. Structured and serious but with a lovely red fruit profile that gives it some gloss and flow. Super strong potential to lift to incredible heights.
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Range
Blackberry, prune and plum with tar and cherry along with a hit of VA. Amplified richness on the palate, this has fruit power with the alcohol folded in nicely. It's a style that speaks for itself, but it didn't really hit the mark for me tonight.
Lemon, quince, orange peel, spice and toast on the nose. Spice and lemon flavours on the palate, very bright, clean and driven - with lovely sweetness to support. Excellent.
Orange peel, caramel, quince, apple, honey and toast - so much happening on the nose here. Tangy acidity on the palate with more of that honeyed toast character. Intense structure and flavour. Love it.
