Tampa

Well, the Liex-dits-Cru guys finally got their act together for a road trip to Mecca in Tampa, FL. As usual, the wines showed, in general, very well and always shockingly youthful from this dark, quiet, frigid cellar. Many of the hits were from unknown producers or average vintages as is often the case here.
We took it a bit easy at the restaurant Friday night, but had a little fun after at the Mons - as much hanging out in the parking lot with a busload of frat boys and a former congressman bearing beers as anything else!
1982 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc 92 Points
France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Deep copper color. Rich spicy nose . Big rich bold spicy perfumed yellow fruit with good complexity on the palate. Nice, but a bit short of the bottle last June - no surprise to see some bottle variation here... 92+ pts.

1982 E. Guigal Hermitage Blanc 89 Points
France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Copper yellow color. Medium nose of peaches. Full caramelized yellow frui with some nutty and perfumed notes on the palate. Nice, but simpler than the Chave next to it.
