  • 2005 Château Barde-Haut 89 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Very dark red color. PNP, poured into vessels for transport at 4:15pm and into glasses at 7pm. Drank a glass over 3.5 hours. Somewhat medicinal on the nose, with iodine, wet earth, dark and brooding fruits, minerals, rustic. The palate is dark and dense, grippy tannins, very dark fruits, blackberry, spice and wood spice, full bodied, tart black cherry. This seemed like the fruit might be a little stewy, but it also may just be more rustic in nature.

  • 2001 Barossa Valley Estate Shiraz E & E Black Pepper 94 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

Very dark red/purple color with a 3-4mm transition. PNP, poured into vessels for transport at 4:15pm and into glasses at 7pm. Drank a glass over 3.5 hours. There's a wonderfully aromatic and high toned nose wafting out of the glass immediately; savory, very floral, sweet dark fruits, gorgeous dark berries; black currants, blackberries, mulberry, tar, hints of dried eucalyptus and white pepper. The palate is like velvet, so soft and supple, full bodied and refined, gorgeous black and blue fruits, blackberry, blueberry, cassis, boysenberry, eucalyptus, dried herbs, tar, smoke, glycerin, violets, and white pepper. This is texturally gorgeous and offers lovely purity adn length. These have been incredibly good and consistent over the years. My last bottle and very sorry to see it go, but always great to go out on a high note. My and group WOTN.

The nose is very savory, blood and roasted meats, very dark, deep black fruits, blackberry liqueur, black raspberry, pepper. The palate is big, but well balanced, opulent and hedonistic fruits, blackberry liqueur, dark berries, pepper, round, long. This was even better the next day.
