  • 2003 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Nose: The nose is wide open and forward with red apples, pears, custard, yellow flowers, orchard fruits, saline, and flint notes. This is an upfront quality to the nose with good depth and balance.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity. There is good depth with a forward take to the tones of red apples, pears, custard, saline, orchard fruits, and yellow flowers.

Overall: This was drinking extremely well and balanced with the vintage in mind. It's at its peak right now and I have a hard time seeing how it gets better.

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Nose: The nose is extremely aromatic and mature, filling the glass with quince, nectar, red apples, melons, yellow flowers, crushed rocks, and honey tones. There is excellent depth and balance with a good bit of poise as well.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with well-integrated, high acidity. The acidity is still fresh and provides a really nice spine with quince, nectar, red apples, melons, crushed rocks, and honey tones.

Overall: This is lovely. There is excellent balance and depth across the nose and palate with a level of refinement that only comes with age.

  • 2013 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny 93 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

Nose: The nose is lovely and expressive with red cherries, strawberries, fresh picked berries, violets, herbs, roses, earth tones, tobacco, and root vegetables. There is excellent depth and an open-knit style that is very attractive even at this youthful stage.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and youthful, medium+ tannins. The structure is certainly youthful but underneath lies a silky feel with tones of red cherries, strawberries, violets, roses, earth tones, and some tobacco.

Overall: This is a lovely, if young, Clos Rougeard. This was fairly open and giving with an attractive red-fruited base and a touch of savoriness to add in some intrigue and depth. This could still benefit from another 5+ years to hit that next level that it is capable of.

  • 2008 Fontodi Flaccianello della Pieve Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT 92 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT

Nose: The nose is perfumed and showing more of a savory side with sour red cherries, raspberries, cranberries, tobacco, dried herbs, licorice, roses, and violets. This shows a bit more advancement than I'd normally expect but there is still a lot of expression to the tones.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. The structure is starting to peel back while the feel is balanced and expressive with sour red cherries, raspberries, licorice, dried herbs, savory notes, and roses.

Overall: This bottle feels like it's a little more advanced than I would normally expect. That said, this is still very enjoyable and showing off a lovely savory side.

  • 2016 Jean-Baptiste Souillard Crozes-Hermitage Les Baties 91 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage

Nose: The nose is pungent and lively with black cherries, raspberries, black pepper, licorice, violets, tobacco, and earth tones. There is good balance and good depth with it also showing off a real youthful exuberance.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with tart, medium+ acidity and chalky, medium+ tannins. The tannins are a little coarse but the feel is well balanced with black cherries, raspberries, black pepper, licorice, violets, and earth tones.

Overall: This is a fun and expressive Crozes-Hermitage. It could benefit from a couple of years to calm down some of the puppy dog parts of this but it's still a really fun and drinkable wine.
