Loved this. Had a hint of sweetness balanced by body and minerality and showing a touch of aged development. Can only imagine how good the higher end EM wines are.

Mini Egon Kabinett vertical at Eat Fine (Chicago, IL): From half-bottle. A bit of a disappointment given the vintage. Perhaps the form-factor had a bit to do with it? Relatively mute on the nose, and a palate that shows quiet and subdued, with the acidity and electricity of the vintage, but alas not much else. Light and zippy, but not showing development yet either.

Helles Gelb. Langer, feinfruchtiger Abgang. Jeder Schluck macht Lust auf den nächsten. Ein schillernder Wein, ab sofort bis 2040+ geniessen.

Drinking beautifully, better than the 16. This was medium gold in the glass, nose of faint petrol, tropical fruit and baked apple. More golden apple on the palate with excellent buffering acidity, a dollar of residual sugar and a funky, leesy finish. And while sure, it can live for longer, I’d surmise this is nearing the peak of its arc.

Dinner at D Cuisine (Chicago, IL): #03-13, 9% abv. I think my palate just keeps turning more and more towards a moderately sweet style as opposed to a straight up Auslese. This really hits the spot today -- it's certainly only modestly sweet, but there is so much slatey mineral content on the palate that this wine has a texture that's reminiscent of tannins. Very light, with fruit that is dialing back the white hot 2012 acidity now, this is far more sedate than what I would have imagined it to be on release. Nevertheless, scintillating and exciting to drink (as with most Egon wines, really...).
