  • 2002 Collard-Picard Champagne Cuvée des Archives 93 Points

    France, Champagne

Extremely interesting tasting: Tasted 2 bottles 2002, one disgorged in 2012 and one disgorded in 2018. We were 9 experienced people, none of us believed it was the same producer and even the same cuvee from the same year. The btl. disgorged in 2012 was obviously a mature wine full of tertiary nutty notes and ripe apple - score 92.
The btl. disgorged in 2018 had completely different flavours: A very characteristic very nice perfume aroma which I unfortunately can't put words on (some mentioned it as acacia - I don't think so). I have had this wine once before and experienced the same aromas. However the acidity was extremely high and not integrated. A very nice wine but unfortunately a little out of balance when it comes to acidity, but still excellent - score 93.

  • 1975 Château d'Yquem 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

The surprise of the evening. I really love Sauternes but usually I don't appreciate older Sauternes as I find them too deliberate oxidised. One example is 1990, which I have tasted several times and find too tertiary in the wrong way. My all time favourite is 2001, which I know many find too young. Not for me - it's perfect. However this bottle from 1975 was outstanding, not as good as 2001 - which might be an impossible target - but nevertheless outstanding with well balanced tertiary notes. 95+
