    France, Champagne

Excellent bottle of this superb value Champagne. Has authentic character, is well-made and drinks like a wine twice its cost.

  • 1995 Château Léoville Barton 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Stunning wine of density, depth and power. Old-school wine making, in that the wine emphasises terroir and fruit, but the elevate comes through in the dark smoky oak notes, which support the intensity of the fruit expression. In early-mid maturity. Absolutely no hurry on this wine, if the bottle are in this condition. Will continue to develop well. 93+

  • 1996 Te Mata Estate Coleraine 90 Points

New Zealand, North Island, Hawke's Bay

Beautiful wine in full maturity. Gorgeous Hawkes Bay Fruit, with a touch of herbaceousness. Resolved tannins lend a creamy, open texture to the currant, earth and beautiful mocha notes. Served at the same time as the 1995 Leoville Barton, this was the less-concentrated of the two, but in some ways, it was the more enthralling for its transparency and sense of total maturity. I imagine this wine will continue to endure, and evolve, but I sense it is at a very interesting point in its full-late maturity.

  • 1997 Château Rieussec 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Totally fabulous wine of perfect dimension. The opulence of the botrytis and the creamy and honied sweetness is fully counterbalanced by a clarity of expression that is rarely found in Sauternes. This is a big wine, but a wine of fabulous balance. Drinking at a particular peak of perfection at the moment. So stunning.
