Introduction

1999 Cortons

Flight 1 - Corton and special steak at Yans (2 Notes)

Alex and Mike liked the Corton-Bressandes better, traditional Burgundy style but no nose really disappointed me today. So, I scored them a tie.

  • 1999 Domaine Tollot-Beaut Corton-Bressandes 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Nose was completely absent, must be in a dumb stage, the entire tasting. on the palate, medium/big body, opened very slowly over 2 hours to win the tasting, old style red Burgundy, very tasty, lovely red fruit, mouth filling, and a medium/long finish.

  • 1999 Domaine Michel Mallard & Fils Corton-Maréchaudes 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Nose of lovely rich fruit, black cherry, black berry, New World style Burgundy, same on the palate, big body, tasty, showed better the first 2 hours than the Corton-Bressandes, faded slightly as we neared the third hour and score was lowered, medium/long finish and lovely, fruity aftertaste.

Flight 2 - Wine tasted with Alex today (3 Notes)

1980 was a WOW today!

  • 1980 Beringer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon State Lane Vineyard 96 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Thanks to Ryan for 2 generous pours of this wine from a 3.0-liter bottle. Nose of lovely rich fruit, black and red cherry here, very floral nose like an Old English rose, hints of dusty earth and allspice, same on the palate, tasted young due to bottle size, never guess this was 41 years old, mouth filling fruit, rich fruit, elegant, shows age but not tired, wonderful wine, long, flavorful finish and aftertaste, This is the most famous Beringer Vineyard IMO, the 1981 and 1982 should not be missed if you have the opportunity to taste them.
