12 base. Sealed under natural cork. Good from the get go. Very pleasant start to the main event.

A treat. I still don’t really *get* Riesling, but I’m trying. Light, herbaceous - maybe a whiff of dill - and gherkin. An almost soapy mouthfeel. These notes don’t do the wine credit - this was very good, and the Riesling aware at the table seemed to approve.

Started out a bit advanced and just fell to pieces. Terribly poxed - real shame as there seemed to be some lovely fruit underneath.

Second part of my continued riesling education this evening. Some CO2. “Racy” was the word used at the table and I concur.

Second bottle from the case. Previous one had been very floral - this seemed better balanced. Lighter than usual - I can’t help thinking there was less viura / Rhone grapes than in other vintages - this was almost part way between a non oxidative style white Rioja and a muscat - very savoury, enough stuffing to face off to the food, but a delicate nature to it. Cracking stuff.

Not the first time I’ve been offered this, but the first time I’ve tasted it. Really lovely stuff - no hint at all of the 03 heat, has the oxidative notes but fully in balance, a waxy mouthfeel and it just goes on. Maybe wotn - this is so good.

Best of these I’ve had. Drinking wonderfully now. On the nose - a hint of bramble, black fruits, super clean. On the palate - the sour cherry is still there but this has filled out, not quite voluptuous but hugely pleasurable. Possibly WOTN - I feel like this and the Gravonia tied, but if I could only drink one wine again out of those two, I’d go for mr Clark.

Started off uncompromisingly fecal - definitely a very bretty smell, although interestingly it didn't feel terribly bretty on the palate. Evidently this is a ripasso style wine, although there was no sweetness there. Once it had opened up - lovely, crunchy - some notes say "pizza wine" and I get that, although it might be damning with faint praise. Lucky to have tried this.

NV Domaine de la Taille aux Loups Triple Zero
France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Montlouis-sur-Loire
A generous pre-game offering. The "triple zero" designation led me to expect something more challenging and funky - this was super easy to drink and delicious, with no sharp edges at all. On the way in - could have been a decent NV champagne, but the aftertaste is very different - at the rounder, more generous end of chenin. Lovely stuff, and very fairly priced - may pick up a couple in future...
