Popped-and-poured, I was expecting reduction but none came through. Slightly floral with lots of bright green apple throughout. Ripe and weighty start, but this quickly brightens up on its long-ish finish. Just a baby, better to cellar at least another year or three.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Absolutely wonderful Meursault nuttiness with a cross-section of ripe and lean apples. This really showcases 2013 at its best at this stage in its evolution - no overt sweetness from the botrytis, but with the richness front-and-center. So great now, with no hurry to drink up.
A good glass of wine, but less classically Chablis-like to me. Richer than many 2014s or certainly most 2014 Chablis, this seemed more like many 2015s, and certainly a very good glass of Chardonnay for current enjoyment.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Opened and double decanted three hours before serving. All black fruit with good weight, but much better layers of flavors. Fairly mature for the vintage, but lots here that keep it very interesting.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru
Opened and double decanted three hours before serving. This was my star of the flight, particularly for its density and overall sheer power. Ok, not the more elegant Grand Cru, but so much here that is ready and easy to enjoy right now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Opened and decanted several hours in advance. Subtle Vosne-styled spice bit with very Vosne-style red fruit everywhere. Still a bit more firm than ideal, but this is 2005 so patience required. Almost at its peak drinking window.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Mostly mature red cherry and berry with some roasted meat, this is just nicely fresh (enough). Maybe not quite Grand Cru density, but easy to enjoy the evolved mature character here. A rare 1996 that is fully ready to go now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Popped-and-poured, then served double blind. Seriously reductive with candied fruit, I thought this an awkward New World Pinot Noir. Lots of ripe red and black cherry with tart and bitter notes that I was unable to reconcile in my mind. Several hours in a decanter would have helped.
Tasted double blind, this was so old world and so old school. Dense and meaty but slightly too dirty for me to really enjoy. Others enjoyed this much more.
1999 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes 89 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Lots of baked apple and butterscotch with good richness, all while fresh enough. Great for its age.

1999 Louis Jadot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes Flawed
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Another bottle was clearly on the tired side, even if nearly drinkable.

2001 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts Flawed
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
At this age (20+ yo), I would not call it "prematurely oxidized" because 2001s were never meant to last 20+ years. But this was well past its peak.

2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Mâcon-Péronne 88 Points
France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Péronne
Bright apple and Meyer lemon with good enough weight, surprisingly bright for the '16 vintage. At a very good place now.

2008 Olivier Bernstein Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Opened and double decanted three hours before serving. Slightly dirty even with good power. Not perfectly pristine, and probably not a perfect bottle.

Big and powerful, just not fully harmonious. Tannins more pronounced than ideal for the level of fruit still here.
