The first two wines I purchased En Primeur...time to have a look at them once again...
I wanted these to be better than they were...
Underrated...and long may it continue to do so...
lascombes were a little disappointing, Belgraves pleasing
2001 Château Lascombes
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
From Coravin. Cedar, sweet spcie, wet blackcurrant, a little bonfire note, brambles and, with time, a touch of earth, plum and leather. Initially sourly juicy with grippy coarsely ground flour texture tannins, then a whisper of blackcurrant and black cherry with plums in support. A little cedar. Medium length. Hmm.

2005 Château Lascombes
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
From Coravin. Toasted oak, cream, slight nail varnish remover, black and red currant jam, cedar tends to cigar box, pyrazine here as well as a little spiced plum. Medium plus intensity acidity, tannins are chalky and drying, fruit struggles a little beneath this but shows through with some buttery creamy notes on the long finish. Time?

2008 Château Lascombes
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
From Coravin. Cedar, biscuit, touches of tomato leaf, wild blackcurrant, again a slight hint of acetone, toasted oak and sweet spice. With time in the glass a slightly meaty note joins the aromas accompanied by a little liqourice. In the mouth it's juicy, savoury and meaty. The tannins are more supporting here; though still quite drying and floury textured. Alcohol warmth is present but non intrusive, fruit a little muted. long. hmm

2010 Château Lascombes
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
From Coravin. Blackcurrant, black cherry, earth, cedar, sweet spice, slight alcohol prickle on the nose, some polished oak as well. On the palate it's juicy and savoury, the fruit present but in the background, tannins are drying on the gums, a little plum, black cherry and blackcurrant joined by some creamy notes. Still primary, time required.
