This was a great evening with Mark Swenarton from the board, his wife Maryanne and a friend of ours from work. Ox had a lovely tasting menu for $30 that they didn't have before, but we ordered off the menu. Nice California cabernet evening. The Insignia rocked and won WOTN all around.
Great evening. I'd never had a Verite and had only had the Quintessa once, so was really pleased to try them both.
2005 Kistler Chardonnay Dutton Ranch
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
This was typical (quality) CA chardonnay for me. Buttery with some oak. Cloudy light yellow in appearance as many Kistlers are. I hope Mark will chime in.

1982 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
USA, California, Napa Valley
Pop and pour. This was fun because it still had the $9.95 price tag on it from 16 years ago. There was a little sediment. Smooth and balanced in the mouth with a short finish. This completely fell apart with air, but was nice right out of the bottle. If you have any of these, I say drink immediately.

1997 Joseph Phelps Insignia
USA, California, Napa Valley
Good golly this is a fantastic wine. I've had it before and like it but it really caught my attention tonight. This was served "pop and pour" and was ready to go right out of the bottle. Balanced, young, fresh. Really lovely.

2001 Vérité La Joie
USA, California, Sonoma County
I liked this, but it was too young. It was served pop and pour and we should have decanted this. It had an incredibly smooth mouthfeel. Short finish. Gorgeous nose. I found this hollow on the mid-palate - something was missing there. Nice. Hold for a few years or at least decant.

2002 Quintessa
USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
This was my bottle and it was also served pop and pour. It was a bit too warm and I only picked up blueberries at first and a slight bit of alcohol. This had more oak than any of the others on the table. This was nice but particularly suffered for its age/lack of decanting. Nice and I wish I hadn't opened it.

1998 Alois Kracher Chardonnay TBA #9 Nouvelle Vague
Austria, Burgenland, Neusiedlersee
I did not care for this at all. All sugary sweet caramel. No body, no acidity, no balance, no backbone. Flabby. Mark found some tea notes on the finish. I concurred, but found nothing redeemable about this wine.
