Nearly a decade since my last bottle. Medium-deep ruby color, bricking appropriate for its age; medium intensity aromatics with mature black fruit, capsicum, some leaves and herbal, underlying blackberry and blackcurrant, a touch of cedar smoke; palate is medium-full bodied, mature black fruit, integrated medium tannin, medium alcohol, fruit fades a bit through the midpalate without as much tertiary complexity to replace it; medium length finish. A lovely Pauillac at maturity, still with some fruit but fading a bit, at peak with good balance and nice depth. This was $34 on release, a far cry from the $150+ now. 90 Double decanted 2 hours: aromatic, showing a bit more tertiary character and complexity. 91 Another hour, even more expressive and well knit together. Lovely now. 91-92
Golden; aromatic, peach, stone fruit; palate is dry, medium-plus acidity, lovely balanced alcohol, stone fruit, a bit of lemon peel; medium-plus finish. Lovely chenin. 92-93
A touch cloudy, high intensity aromatics, herbals with some whole cluster stems, red fruit, meaty/sauvage aromas; palate is medium bodied, medium-plus acidity, balanced alcohol, smooth textured, low-medium integrated tannins; finish is medium-long. Lovely Jamet, unique character. 93-94 Day 2: Lovely aromatics even today, meaty, white pepper, spice; palate is medium bodied, medium-plus acidity, silky tannins fully integrated, good mature fruit; long finish. Really a very lovely Jamet, unique among Northern Rhone.
Honey color; aromatic, honeyed, quince; off dry at this age, medium-plus acidity, balanced, botrytis spice, apricot; finish is medium length. Really lovely mature Vouvray. 91
Mature integrated red fruits; palate is medium bodied, medium tannin, slight red fruit, medium-plus acidity; medium length finish. This is missing a bit of expressiveness and character. 89
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Light-medium red; high intensity aromatics, red fruited, spice; palate is medium bodied, balanced alcohol, medium acidity, mature red fruit; finish is medium length, a touch shorter than expected. Showing well, better than the Volnay, but holding back a bit tonight. 91
