An opportunity to try a shed load of 2019 Barolo is not to be sniffed at. Big thanks for to Prince for putting this tasting on. Also some langhe nebs etc

What a lot of fun…the 2019 Barolo Vintage looks very good indeed
2019 Domenico Clerico Barolo

Fruit tea, pot pourri, red plums have a touch of umeboshi and is joined by cherry with time, slight sweet spice. Juicy, cherry, those red plum notes, saline then plentiful tannic grip that is quite silkily textured closes down the palate. Non intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish. Hmm

2019 Giacomo Borgogno & Figli Barolo

Quite concentrated nose with aromas of cherry, orange peel, dried flowers. Juicy, fleshy, muted cherry, talc textured tannins and surprisingly soft from an acidity perspective. Curious.

Very slight caramel, balsam, pot pourri, slight plum. Juicy, tangy, drying tannins close down the palate a little, slightly out of whack. Hmm.

2019 Giacomo Brezza e Figli Barolo Cannubi

Medium minus intensity aromas of fruit tea, dried rose petal, a touch of dried cherry. In the mouth the wine has medium plus intensity acidity, plentiful silky tannins finishes a little bitter, muted dried cherry fruit, balanced. Okay.

Cherry, slightly sweet spice, fruit tea, dried herbs, floral top notes. Fruit slightly stewed on the palate Medium plus intensity drying chewy and slightly coarse tannins, non-intrusive alcohol warmth, big but balanced. Time required but yum.

Low intensity aromas, a little rose and tar, sour cherry. Juicy acidity, cherry, slight tarry notes, thick and drying tannins are coarse, tight and outlast the flavours. Hmm

Note - very small pour. Agitation ekes out cherry, a little sweet spice, dried flowers. Medium plus intensity acidity, silky tannins, a little cherry note. Okay.

2019 Francesco Rinaldi e Figli Barolo

Bold cherry fruit, sweet spice, a little rose petal note. Juicy, quite fruit tea tannins on the palate prove both drying and tight and slightly chalky textured and rather dominate which throws things slightly out of whack. Time required.

Volatility lends freshness to the nose, dried peel also features. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, drying slightly coarse tannins, slight volatility here as well, nice in a slightly rustic way.

2019 Guido Porro Barolo Vigna Lazzairasco

Again slight volatility but married to ripe cherry fruit, pot pourri, dried flowers especially. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, fruit to the fore, talc textured tannins persist long. Yum but the slight VA makes me concerned for longevity.

Similar to the Serralunga this exhibits fruit tea and slight cherry but with pot pourri over dried rose petal in the background. Medium plus intensity acidity, silky grippy tannins, cherry fruit, rose petal. Lovely

Cream, plum, slightly non-intrusive alcohol lends prickly spice, a little red berry in support as well as dried rose petal. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, coarse flour textured tannins persist, fruit tea, cherry. Nice.

Perfumed red cherry fruit, slightly ashy note. Juicy, fleshy, fruit then soft but pretty talc textured tannins dry out the palate. Fruit persists. Yum.

2019 Pio Cesare Barolo Ornato

New oak married to extracted fruit, sweet spice. Juicy with medium plus acidity, like the straight Barolo this has slightly woody and coarse tannins but this is married to ripe plum and alcohol warmth on the finish. Big, balanced but not for me.

Medium minus intensity aromas of fruit tea, slightly savoury/meaty underpin, red berry and cherry, slight menthol. Medium plus intensity acidity, huge grippy drying tannins persist long carrying the flavours very long. Very good.

Earthy, muted plummy fruit, savoury. Juicy acidity, slightly coarse tannins, lacks fruit on the palate, alcohol warmth intrudes on the finish. Nah.

Concentrated red berry and cherry fruit, fruit tea, slight pot pourri. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity lends a little sourness to the fruit, huge drying tannins are tight and chewy, built for age though the sourness of the fruit is a little off-putting for me.
