Francesco Rinaldi & Figli Barolo Brunate 2019 From a fantastic vineyard location in La Morra. Day 1 is a bit closed, the fruit doesn't quite come to the surface. Clear notes of roses and minerality, tobacco, licorice and blood orange. Day 2 and you understand that this will be very good in a number of years, red berries, cherries and raspberries that match the fine tannins and the clear acidity. One observation is that 2019 may be starting to enter its tunnel. I think 2019 has a clearer structure than, for example, 2018, which also shows that 2019 will develop over a long time to come.

tasted at the cantina with Paola. classic Brunate that's best described as brooding. this is a more concentrated and complex wine than the Cannubi at the early going. the nose shows rose, mint, balsamic, and cherry while on the palate, there is primary cherry fruit, some wet earth and the trademark Brunate balsamic notes. i think this wine develops a little earlier than the Cannubi and will try the first bottle here maybe in 10 years. it's a lovely barolo that just needs time in the cellar. the 2019 collection of baroli from Francesco Rinaldi all have wonderful balance and depth of fruit while retaining enough acidity and tannins to age gracefully for years to come

Prince - Barolo 2019 (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Concentrated red berry and cherry fruit, fruit tea, slight pot pourri. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity lends a little sourness to the fruit, huge drying tannins are tight and chewy, built for age though the sourness of the fruit is a little off-putting for me.

Davy's Barolo tasting (Army & Navy Club, Pall Mall): Heady, lifted and compelling on the nose: a great balance of red fruit and florals, but again it lacks concentration and depth on the palate unfortunately. Not bad, not great.

Open nose but short simple palette. Maybe too young.
