We thought these needs more time but the winemaker disagreed! granted we are not sangiovese people ( Well Andreas for sure) so one needs to adjust this for that . Crushed herbs, dried red fruit, definitely red fruited, no oak here, rustic in style more traditionalist in style we felt. Good wine . 89 and with good life ahead

The addition of merlot to the traditional Chianti varietals of ( Sangiovese & Colorino) as well as the 12 months in French oak polish the wine and make it a lot more round and less rustic vs their Chianti ( we had the Chianti Rùfina Riserva Villa Bossi 2015 - Papies 89). Granted not a typical wine or a wine for the purists of Chianti but for our non chianti seeking palate this added a more subtle and rounder side to it. Pretty 90 and with good life ahead

A lot more of an international wine albeit far from a super juicy and spicy modern expression. This is a way is where chianti style meets cabernet sauvignon and with wine proudly carries the family crest on the label for a reason. Richer than their traditional bottlings, rounder and more polished , touch of oaky dynamic but not heavy at all. An interesting wine for sure. 90-91

Soft light pale in color and in a way on the palate too but also with bright citrus notes, light floral side. Mineral wine with good structure and acidity. Could use a bit more depth of flavor for sure but a very pretty wine. 89

Bottle sourced directly by the winemaker. It always (had also with N Biasi the 2019 ( Papies 92) and is always such a passion to see him talk about this wine.
Frankly we think he got the oak better on the 2020 to the 2019 or maybe the vintage can carry the oak better. In any case the wine is ever so elegant and even at this relatively young age ( This can really age well in our view) , firm and mineral, bright and with a soft floral , herby. Light oaky dynamic but the wine owns the oak very well ( unlike the experience we had with the 2019 a year ago) and is really a very elegant and beautiful wine. even better and testament to the wine we served this at the end of a long wine flight and still was ever so bright and beautiful. 93-94
100% Johanniter sourced from his own vineyard at 1000m in the dolomites ( the vineyard is actually 1000mx1000m too hence the designation on the label). Oak fermented and with full Malo-lactic fermentation. Further 11 months of ageing in new French oak barriques followed by 14 month-aging in bottle. Approximately 100 bottles made a year

2007 Gosset Champagne Célebris 93 Points
France, Champagne
From a beautiful magnum and ever such a great way to start a celebration. The wine now drinks exceptionally well and impressively this is more mineral and focused than we would have guessed as usually their wines are richer and rounder. Still impressively good and of course adding the magnum effect this just delivered the biz. An easy 93

2012 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 93 Points
France, Champagne
Young? Yes! but really that's is secondary the wine is special nd impressive vintage in vintage out. And on this occasion did not fail us either. It was also served among a variety of other champagnes and was so nice to see it excel effortlessly with that signature elegance that comes with this wine. Lots of life ahead here but delicious now too!

NV Louis Roederer Champagne Collection 242 89 Points
France, Champagne
A very solid all rounder NV but in many cases one of many and lacks a special side to the equation. Nothing to fault it and makes for a great aperitif but also lacks the memory factor. 89-90

1980 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Rocche di Castiglione Falletto
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Well there are no good wines but good bottles when it come to old wines and more than that 1980s Italy.
This was sourced from a solid merchant ( Hedonism in London). The cork took a bit of engineering to get out ( ideally we needed a Durant or port tongs) but got there in one piece.
The wine needed some time to shed the VA and post that it started to open but never really got anywhere and was flat and well past its better days. Not more than an 80 but a sacrilege to rate this

2005 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 92 Points
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
A good 7(!) years since we had this last ( Papies 91) and great to cross paths with it again with a bit more evolution and indeed this is now drinking beautifully and with so much more to evolve too. Already showing secondary notes, light earthy side, herbs de Provence , light spice. The fruit is still there more darker and smokier at this stage than the bright red fruited 2009 we had also on the day ( Papies 91 and young) . A very pretty bottle that is now well into the drinking window and will not fail! very good 92-93 and this definitely will be even more with 5yrs more.

2009 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 91 Points
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Ok this is young and for now its very much ideal for those looking and enjoying young bright fruit. Especially comparing it with the beautiful 2005 we had just before ( Papies 92-93) this just felt juicy and ripe and all in fruit. Really this needs 10years for the proper side of herby/secondary to kick in. For now this is a joy for fruit fwd loving palates. Not so much ours. 91 from us now and with a lot of future for higher marks. Patience will be rewarded.

2005 Château Beau-Séjour Bécot
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Not sure here. Either the bottle was off or this wine is sufferings from a voluptuous and over ripe youth of the 2005 vintage. ad a bit of VA on the nose all along, the palate was harsh and unwelcoming and the fruit felt burnt. The notes below don't seem to agree with our experience so we will not rate and blame it on the bottle rater the wine but if indeed this was the right experience we would worry dearly or this wine. NR from us but it we had to 85
