Flight 1 (7 Notes)

  • 2002 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett 91 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

The nose is deft and fragrant with balanced tones of peaches, red apples, quince, caramel, pears, yellow flowers, nectarines, and some mineral tones. The nose shows off some good primary fruits along with excellent development and maturity. The Light bodied feel is silky and with some nice weight along with crisp, high acidity that is showing off good integration. This is right in that good spot between maturity and primary qualities and I'm enjoying it immensely.

  • 1995 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spätlese 94 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

The nose is flowing, deep, and layered as it fills the glass with nectarines, cheese rind, creamed peaches, yellow florals, red apples, golden Grahams, shaved ginger, and some pears. This nose is the epitome of what can make mature Riesling wonderful. The Light bodied feel is textured and balanced with integrated, high acidity. The acidity is there for framing now as it cuts through some of the sugar while the feel leans into a lengthy finish. This is glorious right now as it shows off excellent mature tones while still having a bit of freshness to keep it interesting.

  • 2005 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese 93 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

The nose is complex and succulent with deep tones of Ginger, kumquat, peach, pears, apples, vanilla beans, nectarines, and some white flowers. This is a nose that is easy to get lost in. The fruit favors more of the yellow spectrum at this point and while not in the fully mature mode, it is certainly more rounded and balanced. The Light bodied feel shows off the succulent quality of the nose along with good balance that is backed up by tart, high acidity. This is in a real groove right now. There is a ton going on with a delicious succulent side that I'm really enjoying. This can easily go for many years to come, but it's really delicious right now.

  • 2010 Owen Roe Syrah Red Willow Vineyard Chapel Block 90 Points

USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley

The nose shows off a richer quality with black currants, licorice, liqueur tones, spices, black cherries, black raspberries, blueberry compote, blackberries, peppery notes, and some violets. The Full bodied feel is balanced and rich with medium acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. The tones are smoothed out and showing off a richer take to Syrah. There is a bit of alcohol sting on the back end of the palate, but this feels like it is fully ready to go at this point.

  • 2015 Jean et Sébastien Dauvissat Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

The nose is fragrant and balanced right away with crushed rocks, oyster shells, red apples, pears, saline notes, yellow flowers, melon notes, and some vanilla beans. I like the complexity and balance here, but the tones are somewhat laying on the surface and not showing the kind of depth that I would want from this level of wine. The Medium bodied shows off excellent texture and balance with integrated, medium+ acidity. This is pretty seamless on the palate and shows the upfront qualities of the nose. There is good length here, but like the nose, the tones aren't as deep as I would want for a wine of this level. This feels like its one to drink on the earlier side as opposed to waiting a long time.

  • 2015 Maison Leroy Bourgogne 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

The nose is open and seamless from the first pour with lovely tones of red cherries, raspberries, earth notes, a touch of funk, baking spices, herbs, and roses. The red fruits really pop here with a sumptuous style while showing off a lot more class than the level would normally bring (though it is Leroy, so, yea). The Medium bodied feel is textured and silky with crisp, medium+ acidity and balanced, medium tannins. It is always a treat to have a Leroy no matter the level of the wine. The class and pedigree clearly show through here as it is a real joy to drink and a perfect window into what the higher end wines can do.

  • 2019 Big Table Farm Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 89 Points

    USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

The nose is fresh and lively with tones of sarsaparilla, red cherries, raspberries, violets, spice notes, fresh herbs, red florals, and some plum tones. There is a youthful verve to the nose that is enticing, but it also lacks some depth that would really drive them. The Medium bodied feel is balanced and fresh with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium tannins. This is a really nice and fresh Pinot Noir, but it lacks a midpalate. Hopefully a few years of aging will let it flesh out a bit more as the tones are really nice, but the palate leaves a bit to be desired.
