Flight 1 (10 Notes)

  • 2022 Fenocchio Roero Arneis 88 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Roero

The nose is fresh and balanced with peaches, white fruits, pears, green apples, acacia flowers, and some mineral notes. There is good freshness and balance, but it does lack some depth that would kick it up a notch. The Medium bodied feel shows off the freshness of the nose along with tart, high acidity that is mouthwatering. This is a fun and fresh Arneis that plays into the lighter side of the spectrum.

  • 2022 Giacomo Fenocchio Roero Arneis Anima Arancio 90 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Roero

An Orange Arneis? Color me intrigued (pun intended). This is certainly something new for me and I'm rather enjoying the different take on the grape as it shows off nectarines, blood oranges, red apples, meyer lemons, almond paste, spiced pears, vanilla beans, and yellow flowers. This is a very different nose from the more traditional Arneis and it brings more intrigue. The Medium bodied feel is textured and balanced with tart, high acidity that leans into a lengthy finish. This is a cool and unique take on Arneis. I'm not sure it's for everyone and in some senses this is more of an intellectual curiosity than something I'd want to have on the regular. Still, it's a really good wine and one that is fun to experience for anyone that is a fan of Piedmont if they want something different.

  • 2022 Giacomo Fenocchio Dolcetto d'Alba 89 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba

The nose is balanced and fresh with red berries, blueberries, red cherries, crushed rocks, violets, roses, and some wild flowers. This is on the straightforward side while showing off decent depth, though lacking complexity. The Medium bodied feel is balanced with tart, medium+ acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. The structure isn't too overwhelming and there is actually a vibrant wine underneath. Where it does lack is in the complexity department, but it really hits a lot of good notes otherwise.

  • 2021 Giacomo Fenocchio Barbera d'Alba Superiore 89 Points

Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba Superiore

The nose is forward and balanced with tones of red cherries, raspberries, crushed rocks, leather, spice notes, roasted herbs, and some savory notes. This shows off good depth to offset the forward qualities, but it does lack some complexity. The Medium/full bodied feel is deft and balanced with crisp, high acidity and silky, medium tannins. This is a classic Barbera d'Alba that shows off the parts I really enjoy from the grape with the savory qualities across the nose and palate.

  • 2021 Fenocchio Langhe Nebbiolo 88 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC

The nose is high-toned and perfumed with a lovely freshness to the tones of rose petals, crushed rocks, red cherries, strawberries, violets, and licorice notes. There is a pretty, lifted quality to the nose, but it does show off the level as it lacks some depth. The Medium/full bodied feel is balanced and fresh with tart, high acidity and youthful, high tannins. Like with the nose, it does lack depth. But, this is a real pretty Langhe Nebbiolo that plays well into the red spectrum for the fruit and florals.

  • 2019 Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo 91 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

The nose is elegant and savory with fresh tones of red cherries, strawberries, fresh picked berries, crushed rocks, rose petals, violets, and some roasted herbs. This is really lovely and heady while showing off excellent depth. The Full bodied feel shows off excellent balance and the depth of the nose with tart, high acidity and chewy, high tannins. The structure is clearly youthful and in need of time to let itself really shine. Still, there is a real red-fruited base that is attractive and fresh along with excellent depth across the nose and palate.

  • 2019 Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Bussia 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

There is an attractive and savory quality that really draws you in with fresh tones of red cherries, raspberries, strawberries, roasted herbs, leather, crushed rocks, violets, licorice, and herbal spices. There is excellent balance and depth with a robust way of being to the nose. The Full bodied feel is well balanced and silky with tart, high acidity and youthful, high tannins. This clearly needs time, but what's there already is pretty darned good. This shows off an elegance and red-fruited base that is attractive and will develop well over the next decade or so.

  • 2019 Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Castellero 93 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

The nose is perfumed and refined with violets, red cherries, savory notes, crushed rocks, violets, roasted herbs, mint, cinnamon, wild flowers, and some raspberries. There is a sense of style of elegance to this that is intoxicating as it leans more into the purple spectrum. The Full bodied feel is silky and elegant with racy, high acidity and youthful, high tannins. This will certainly improve with time as the structure is imposing right now. That said, there is a lot to like with it showing off a lot of perfume and the feel shows off excellent depth.

  • 2019 Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Cannubi 93 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

There is a beautiful headiness to the nose with layered tones of red cherries, crushed rocks, strawberries, fresh picked berries, licorice, roasted herbs, wild flowers, cinnamon, morning dew, and violets. The nose is demure and perfumed with a way that really draws you in. The Full bodied feel is refined and deep with tart, high acidity and youthful, high tannins. This is a gorgeous, young Barolo that plays more into the red spectrum where the Castellero played into the purple spectrum.

  • 2019 Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Villero 93 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

This is wound up a little tight, but oh baby is this something to smell. There is a lot of depth and complexity to the nose with dark red cherries, raspberries, fresh picked berries, violets, roasted herbs, licorice, savory spices, wild flowers, and some crushed rocks. The Full bodied feel shows a lot of refinement and depth with racy, high acidity and chewy, high tannins. The structure is clearly youthful and this is a very young wine overall. But, this is also a wine that shows off a lot of class and quality already even as it has plenty of room to grow.
