2022 Jadot Primeur Barrel Tasting

I attended the 22 Jadot Barrel tasting organized by Kobrand. It was lead by Frederic Barnier, the technical director at Jadot. The wines were well made for certain. I was very impressed by the Clos St. Jacques.

• 2022 Louis Jadot Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume 90 Points

  France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

  Medium expressive nose displaying yellow citrus fruit with a hint of white, lemon, apple, honeysuckle, a hint of oak/butter, spicy spices and mineral. Medium concentration, ripe yellow and white fruit, good balance, medium acidity and mineral, and a medium long ripe yellow and white fruit driven finish. This is already drinking well but a bit straightforward.

• 2022 Louis Jadot Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot 93 Points

  France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

  Expressive nose displaying fresh white fruit, pear, apple, a hint of lemon curd, spicy spices and limestone. Very good concentration, nicely layered fresh white fruit, cool and precise, good acidity and mineral, and a medium to long fresh white fruit driven finish. This has more energy and depth than the 22 Fourchaume.

  Very focused nose displaying pure cool white fruit, pear, granny smith, cool mountain stream and chalky mineral. Good concentration, finely layered fresh white fruit, cool, precise and fine detail, bright acidity, strong chalky mineral and a long fresh white fruit driven mineral finish. This is a very focused mineral driven Chardonnay. Clear step up from the Clos des Prouges.

  Medium expressive nose displaying subtle white fruit, apple, a hint of lemon, saline, a hint of oak, spicy spices and limestone. Medium concentration, subtle white fruit, medium acidity, good mineral, and a medium long finish. Correctly made with a hint of oak but a bit straightforward.

  Expressive nose displaying generous white fruit, pear, lemon curd, sweet spices and chalk. Good concentration, generous white fruit, rich, warm and round but also showing a good balance, medium acidity, strong mineral, and a medium to long generous white fruit driven mineral finish. This is richer and more concentrated than the Santenay served prior.

  Medium expressive nose displaying ripe white fruit, pear, apple, white flowers, a hint of butterscotch and limestone. Very good concentration, ripe white fruit, warm and round, medium acidity, good limestone mineral, a medium long ripe white fruit driven mineral finish. The mid-palate is a bit hollow. Well made but a bit straightforward.

  Medium expressive nose displaying rich yellow citrus fruit, lemon curd, golden delicious, light honey, a hint of oak and limestone. Very good concentration, generous rich yellow fruit, warm, sweet and round, medium acidity, good limestone mineral, and a medium to long ripe yellow fruit driven finish. This is the most concentrated white so far but a bit flat.

  Expressive nose displaying concentrated yellow citrus fruit, lemon curd, a hint of pineapple, coconut, sweet spices and steely mineral. Very good concentration, layers upon layers of generous sweet yellow fruit, rich and concentrated but also showing a good balance, medium acidity, steely mineral, and a long ripe yellow citrus fruit driven finish. This is a well made Corton Charlemagne but slightly lacks the energy and excitement.

This is richer and more concentrated than the 22 Clos des Couchereaux.

Very good concentration, layers upon layers of sweet red fruit, rich and structured, medium acidity, earthy mineral, and a long ripe red fruit driven finish. This is a structured wine that will improve for the next two decades or more.

  An exquisite nose displaying pure delicious red fruit, raspberry candy, vine-ripened strawberry, rose, light caramel, cappuccino, sweet spices, and fine minerals. Already showing beautifully integrated palate, with finely layered pure red fruit, silky and airy, with beautiful detail and balance, and the perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a seamless, long pure red fruit driven floral finish. This is an excellent CSJ. It would be fascinating to compare it blindly with Rousseau's version

Very good concentration, generous red fruit, warm and round, bright acidity, earthy mineral, noticeable tannins and a long sweet red fruit driven earthy finish. Perhaps the most concentrated wine of the tasting.
