Introduction

Wednesday Wine Committee Luncheon.

But I forgot to grab the menu. The food was good.

Our one hint is that all wines were from the same country.

Flight 1 (10 Notes)

  • NV André Chemin Champagne Premier Cru Tradition Blanc De Noirs

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

Tasted blind - from flute. A bit too cold at first, but fragrant and a bit floral on the nose as it slightly warmed. Gold in the glass, lots of bubbles; apple on the palate, slight lemon, high acidity. I didn't get much nuttiness and guessed a 2006 BdB. Tasty.

  • 2017 Marc Deschamps Pouilly-Fumé Les Champs de Cri

France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Pouilly-Fumé

Tasted blind - muted nose, slightly floral, light straw color in the glass. Definite acidity, but tasted soft on my palate, with citrus flavors, and a slight sweetness. There was a tiny hint of grapefruit/cat pee on the nose, but barely. Fairly muted overall on the nose, but tasty on the palate. Guessed a Sancerre.

  • 2017 Lamblin & Fils Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

Tasted blind - light straw in the glass, another muted/soft nose, with hints of lemon peel. Soft on the palate. I didn't know where to go on this, certainly didn't get a chardonnay. Guessed a Loire Valley chenin blanc.

  • 2015 Domaine Louis Cheze Condrieu Cuvée Pagus Luminis

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Condrieu

Tasted blind - my favorite white of the tasting. Light straw in the glass, with salted lemon on the nose; this wine had great structure, with nice acidity. I wrote down lemon a lot, but I got that here too, with oak. The most full-bodied of the whites. I guessed it was chardonnay, so a Puligny Montrachet was where I went.

  • 2005 Château Pape Clément Blanc Flawed

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Tasted blind - Pretty sure this was corked. At least one other person thought so. Was very sad once I found out what it was...

  • 1996 M. Chapoutier Hermitage La Sizeranne

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Tasted blind - Lots of bricking, almost brown in the glass; nose of meat and leather, lots of sediment; some black tea; slightly prune-y; most dried/stewed fruits; Guessed a CDP. This wine has probably seen better days, though it was not flawed. Just a little tired.

  • 2008 Château de Vaudieu Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Tasted blind - deep purple in the glass; not a big nose, but fresh red berries; integrated, but noticeable tannins; slight hint of tea; nice fruit on the palate, some blue fruit. I guessed a northern Rhone here. This bottle was in a nice spot.

  • 1999 Château Pavie

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Tasted blind - my top wine. Big nose of red fruit, with a hint of olive juice; deep red in the glass, little to no bricking. Nice integrated tannins lent a great structure that paired with the fresh red fruit flavors, with a hint of saddle leather. Delicious. Guessed a right bank BDX. I was in the neighborhood on age.

  • 2002 Château Lynch-Bages

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Tasted blind - Tertiary nose, a blend of animal, sweat, and red fruit. Slight bricking in the glass, with pretty big tannins. Big red fruit flavors, mixed with some olive juice and earth. Called a left bank BDX. Tasty, but not as good as the Pavie in my opinion.

  • 1990 Château Rieussec

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

Tasted blind - dark gold to amber in the glass (a beautiful color); nose of apricot and honey; slightly hot on the palate, but bursting cooked apricots mixed with honey and lemon. Delicious. Called a Sauternes (or maybe a Rhone late harvest something).

I need to find a tasting note other than lemon...
